Finally had the time to convert my '71 from column to floor shift. Not available in '71 in Sandalwood. Need to hook up the linkage at the trans, looks like tomorrow AM. Whole job made so much easier by printing George's article & following step-by-step. Still looking for the ever elusive 3 spoke Sandalwood steering wheel. Cheers,
Hey Steve, Did you see the wheel in this listing? I cannot be sure if it is sandalwood or a light saddle but it might be worth checking out: http://nashville.craigslist.org/pts/2434464866.html Also, check with Joe Orrechio in CA as he used to have a sandalwood sport wheel for sale a while back.
Chris, Don't see Joe's name in the membership directory. Perhaps he uses another name here? Sent the steering wheel vendor an e-mail. Looks like what I have but we'll see.
>>Hi Steve, Here is his contact info: Joe Orecchio Gmgold70@aol.com (510)489-4251 He is the guy I bought the complete set of 1971 deluxe sandalwood seatbelts for my former '71 GSX clone, and he also had a very nice Sandalwood sport steering wheel that I passed on because I found an NOS one on this board instead.
Chris, Contacted Joe & he's fresh out of Sandalwood. Had two but since sold. I took out the 8-track player & the tissue box. Cleans it up on the inside, may leave them out. Found a large screwdriver that's been laying on the dash brace since last time I had the dash apart.
Sorry to hear that Joe no longer has the sandalwood sport steering wheel. He is a good guy to deal with. I agree with you - your underdash looks clean. When I was considering going with a floor console I thought about that as the floor console runs right up under the dash. But since I am putting in a shorty console with bucket seats, I put three underdash autometer gauges a little left of the ash tray and a tissue dispenser on the passenger side and everything is kind of evened out.
Chris & Dale, Thanks for the comments. I'll be posting my shorty console in "For Sale Ads" very soon.
Looks beautiful, just like the factory should have done it. :TU: I love the 1 of none cars. Kinda like the COPO 430 stage 1 skylark I built. Are those floormats from car motorsport? How do you like the quality?
Jim, Bought the floormats 5-6 years ago from A-1 Automotive. Found them on-line & price was pretty good. Don't remember what the price was but I jumped at it. Something tells me +/- $100 for a set of 4. Mats are the same material as the floor carpet with edging/stitching & the logo stitched in. Driver side getting a bit dirty but a good indicator the car gets driven. I'll buy another identical set should I ever wear them out, quality is great.
Cool, thanks Steve. I bought the opgi mats with Skylark on them. Decent quality, though they're too narrow for the fronts and a little too wide for the rear set, but overall not too bad.
Nice job. I was wondering, do you have the column that came out of it? Did you swap out the transmission as well? In any case, that floor shift with console looks friggin' sweet!
>>Ha ha John:laugh: - you were a godsend when I was looking for that sandalwood sport steering wheel:beer
