Over the years in various cars I had old dried out floor mats and it was just too bad in what shape and color discoloration they were in;I tried the usual
dash sprays etc but that did not get them near anywhere to looking good.
Then I read about Pledge -Restore and Shine furniture polish! to use for plastic parts in cars, from hoses, to knobs,to dashes etc, interior and exterior. Just works wonders on dried out floor mats.
The floor mats that came with my new 1975 LeSabre Convertible were in just dreadful discoloration and dry. So I simply sprayed the mats quite liberally, then used a rag to slightly wipe it all over the mat areas and let it sit "wet" over night. Did the same the next day and voila - almost new looking mats plus they will hardly dry out again. I also use it in the engine compartment on hoses, black painted parts etc.

Product still available? (Re: old dried out floor mats -easy how to bring 'em back)

Dear Klaus, Bill, Jerry, and V-8 Buick fans of products that actually do what you want them to.

Sounds like a great idea Klaus, but there appears to be a potential problem. This product is no longer listed on the Pledge website:

    https://www.pledge.com/en-us/products

A product like this would have to have something potent to rejuvenate rubber like that. Given all the pressures companies are facing between being green and customer safety, perhaps Pledge was forced to reformulate.

Does any of their existing products look like a replacement?

    Cheers, Edouard

Looking for the SDS (Re: old dried out floor mats)

Dear James, Rick, and V-8 Buick fans of reverse aging,

Thanks for finding the link. There is something odd about this product though. I found the SC Johnson website for Safety Data Sheets so I could look what sort of chemistry is behind this product. The site is here:

    http://www.scjohnson.com/en/products/msds/msds_united_states.aspx

However, Pledge Restore & Shine isn't listed as a product. I suspect that it works as Klaus describes because it has an assertive active ingredient that is not considered environmentally unfriendly. For that reason, I think SC Johnson is probably quietly phasing the product out. So if you have a need to restore mats like this, try to find this stuff if you can. It might not be available for much longer.

    Oh well, . . . . Edouard

yes, I do both sides of the mats, and as others have noted as well, on many plastic parts. For example I use it on the plastic parts on the convertible top mechanism, makes them look new (after I wet wiped off the parts). Also makes the painted surfaces on the inner window side trim shiny and lasts, just use very little of it. Really a great product to get a car not only look good but almost original looking plastic parts for shows. or use a drop of it on a Q-Tip and clean the air vents in the dash
At the time I bought 4 bottles of it as it was hard to get.
