I've got this crazy idea of building a street custom. :eek2: Most builders get an old wreck and graft modern mechanicals into it. Has anybody ever gone through the reverse exercise ( dramas etc ) of using a modern chassis and running gear and mounting a pre-war body onto it ? o No: Cheers, Ken.
On Verizon HD TV there is a show street customs they did a 67 chevelle on a 2007 ZO6 corvette frame and a 68 charger on a 2007 charger frame i like the finished product with the charger but not the chevelle.
Ive also seen the charger conversion and thought it turned out well, but looked like it took a lot of time. The both of them were done for Gary Dourdan of CSI by west coast customs. Heres a short video of some of the episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vCMtYQKEZ4
I had a 57 Buick special 2 door hard top body on a 72 Electra chassis, and it was GREAT! The 57 chassis was not a good setup as the ball joints were really expensive ,and the brakes were terrible. :beer :beer
There was a local street rod guy (Tim Purvis) in my Dad's Lincoln club that took a '40 Continental Cabriolet and put a complete Lincoln Mk VII engine and drivetrain in it. Tilt wheel, A/C, the works. Really well crafted. Almost looked like it came that way from the factory.
Saw a show on "??", possibly SPEED a couple years ago. '66 Mustang shell on a 2005? platform/drive train. Fenders & hood had to be lengthened a bit to accomodate wheel base differences. Very nice professional job. Other end of the spectrum a few local wrenchers will take a late '70's Bronco or Blazer chassis, full size, & fit a '63 Ford 4 door body to it. Complete job, everything works. Once complete they take it on the streets & into the woods & get it to do what it's good at.
