Did any Cadillac from 1955 to lets say 1985 every have a tach or option for it.. Not the new CTS's and that Vette copy. Old school..
Maybe in 85 they were doing some of that to make car look cool inside I don't think Cads were not that great in 85 if I remember correctly. At one point they downsized the crap out of them did not look like a Cad. I'd like a 55 Cad monster.
Yes. The new 1982 Cadillac Cimarron. It had a tach, was available with a manual transmission, and had the best fuel economy of any car in Cadillac history! I know it's not the old-school you are thinking in your mind, but it is before your 1985 cutoff year. Check out the commercial from 1982, link: 1982 Cadillac Cimarron Commercial (youtube.com) A GM photo and illustration showing the tach and the manual transmission shifter. You have an opportunity to buy one of the tach on eBay right now. Car and Driver did a full road test of a Cimarron with a 4-speed manual and it ran a blistering 19.5 in the 1/4 mile. From the Archive: 1982 Cadillac Cimarron Road Test (caranddriver.com) Almost making the 1985 cutoff was the 1987-1993 Cadillac Allanté.
Did any of the early 1980s Cadillacs have a digital dash/gauge cluster?I could see a digital dash having one built in.
You mean its 85 hp. and whopping 100 lb ft. basicly a Cavalier didn't get the job done!! I forgot alot about these after 1982 ish cars.
I know. I was thinking man, the U.S. car market in the 80's, save for a few models here and there, was like that uncomfortable and gangly stage of puberty, where you knew it could only get better from here, but at the moment, it was painful to exist.
Yup, plus I really thought around 1980ish that was the end of it for performance cars. GM seemed to turn their focus to make the TransAm and Z28 a good cornering car instead. We we petrified to take of the early awful catalytic convertors..
They gave the car to my older sister as a 16th birthday present in '94. It was so rotted by then the back doors were ready to fall off. The AC on that car doubled as an engine brake... Thats one of my favorite jokes about gutless cars and that was the OG for that joke..
Reminds me of my Mom's Chevrolet Citation early 80s, and yes, the air conditioning did act as an engine brake. I think Mom was the only one in the family that liked that car. Best story with that car was. Family Vacation with the early 80's 4 or 5 kids in the car not sure how we fit. Plastic car top carrier on the roof. 4 retaining Clamps somehow came loose on the highway a Truck beeping at Dad to let him know we had a trail behind us, circling back and retrieving the top and a few miles of clothes. I remember a rope around the car top carrier the rest of the trip... I did find it funny that the Cimmaron had the best fuel economy of any Cadilac up till that point.
The late 80s digital dash didnt. Ive got a 89 or so local to me im looking into getting to flip for the channel and it didnt have a tach. Even the digital caprices in the 90s didnt have a tach.
Was thinking the Eldorado Touring Coupe might of had a tach, but it’s not mentioned in the ‘84 sales brochure (didn’t check other years).
I was going to say a friend of mine had a red Cimarron in high school. 5 speed and I thought it had a tach. What a car haha.
