Not sure if this is the right place BUT!

WE have a 7.5 posi from a 89 Trans AM I took it out and it was installed into an 82 Regal. No problem right?? Wrong! The splines are smaller on the regal axles than the TA axles. Everything else was correct. Does anyone know what spline size the TA axle is?? AND can the axles from the TA go into the Regal housing?? OR what do I need to buy?? HELP!!!

I know the measurements for the axle from the regal so we can compare notes if you have an 89 axle from a TA.

    Thanks

In 88 GM went to 30 spline axles, did you count the ones from the TA?

Mike, the 3rd Gen Bird axles are considerably wider than the G-Body axles, so no swap on factory axles.

The '75-late '80's 7.5 axles are 26 spline, while the late 80's up into 90's 7.5/7.625 rears used 28 spline axles. Solution, can either pull the carrier & ring gear & go with low ratio 26 spline posi, OR order a pair of aftermarket axles from Moser. Not going real quick???... on the shelf, I have a 26 spline low ratio 7.5 posi in good shape. It is an Auburn, not a junky Gov-lock. Would consider doing some kind of trade.

Feel free & shoot me an e-mail if interested: resto_services@yahoo.com.

Mike try to count the splines on the inside of the posi carrier. If they are indeed 28 perhaps stock Turbo Regal axles should fit. There should some decent used ones on the market since many folks are upgrading to the aftermarket axles.

The 7 1/2 Regal differentials used 26 spline axles and the 8 1/2 inch Turbo Regal differentials used 28 spline axles.

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

Actually, the thirdgen rears are 7 5/8", not 7.5". All I know is that makes them non-interchangable. Ran into this when I had an 85 T/A (BBB powered of course) and I tried to swap in a limited slip unit from an 83 el camino. it didn't work.

    7.5 info

The 7.5 7 5/8 are all inter changable. As long as you have the proper size and count spline axles. 1987 and older 7.5 are 26 spline. 1988 /1989 and up are 28 spline axles . same thing happened with the 8.5 rear diffs too 28 to 30 spline axles.

So your options are to get the 26 spline posi or get 28 spline axles afetermarket.

I JUST SO HAPPEN TO HAVE THOSE AXLES FOR SALE... REALLY 200.00 AND THEY ARE YOURS. BRAND NEW MOSER AXLES. ( I can send you pictures, if you would like. They will slide right in and make that posi work. And the axles will be way better than the old ones. Both the posi and the axles will help to stentghen the rear.

Let me know if your interested I am alway at the email address below. Jim

    axles

Will do. They also have 5 screw in stud holes and 5 stanard press in stud provisions. I think the box says 28 1/2 or 28 3/4 I will measure and check the number on the box. Jim

just checked 28 7/16 the box says. but I will do a physical measurement when I GET HOME. Here are the pictures too. Jim

    bearing size

All gm mid size cars use the same bearing. s-10 , g-body f-body a-body 5707 bearing. Nova Camaro Regal Monte all C-clips use the same. Full size cars in the 70-and early 80's caddys and such are the only ones and full size trucks that use the bigger bearings.

Yes they are c-clip style I will get you the bearing measurement to ease you mind.

Ok just got back from the garage. bearing surface diameter is 1.400. I do have a set of 26 spline g-body axles and they are identical in length...putting them face to face spline end to axle flange oppisite each other. The only difference is the moser axle is fatter at the 28 spline end all the way to the bearing end making it stronger. If they do not work I WILL BUY THEM BACK. I am on ebay all the time(MONZAZ) I have 100 percent feedback and 374 score. I am just trying to help you out. Ok? :beer :) :TU: Jim

    axles

BIG BOY TOYS... IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU GOT TO PAY...LOL. No, but really check the price on them from Moser. If you want to use a torsen GM posi or newer auburns with 28 spline in your g-body car from 1978 - 1988 these will work great. 10 bolt 7.5 rear.
