im putting a 455 into my skylark and the goal is for optimal drivability around town and long trips. the motor is only a little more than stock i.e. mild performance cam etc. anyone know where i can get a good oil pan? also, does anyone have the TA highperformance high volume oil pump/timing cover setup on their 455? i was looking for a review on this as a solution to buick oiling problems. thanks.

For the oil pan, post in the parts wanted section of this BB. I have the repro TA timing cover on my Stage1. I had them set up the oil pump with new gears, new cover, booster plate, and adjustable regulator. Cost about 700.00 to my door about 2 years ago. Worth every penny. DO NOT, however, even think about using a Hi Volume/Hi Pressure pump kit. They are simply not necessary, and will lead to other problems. If your bearing clearances are correct, all you need is a stock pump in good condition with the proper .002 end clearance, and booster plate, and you will have plenty of pressure.

Larry's right...avoid the HV oil pump like the plague on a street (and most race) engine!!!:blast: HV oil pumps and a bad front cam bearing, just about go hand in hand.:spank:

TA's timing cover on the other hand, is a Top Quality piece!!:Smarty: :TU:

    oiling

The only mod i did to my 455 is connect the lifter oil gallies together in the back of the engine, just in case if front cam bearing failure oil can still get to the other side of the engine.

The TA reproduction timing cover can be had by itself, or set up by TA with brand new pump gears, booster plate, and adjustable regulator. Just call them. They will explain everything on the phone. There is only one big block timing cover that they sell.
