How important is it to oil new valve springs? I've never bothered......last set of springs were still good at 400 passes

Is it the ends that one should be concerned with?

    Bruce,

I'm not sure that I'm following you.. On installation? I'd pour some (a little) oil over them before bolting valve covers on.. Of course the oil system should be re-primed if necessary. Are the lifters still pumped up (assumming hyd.)?

No, according to AMP and TA, the entire spring should be oiled, esp the tops and bottoms or else they will gall and create enough heat to weaken the spring.
But I've forgot this when I just changed mine.....
