I have an Almost Stock 1970 455 Stage 1 in a 1983 S10 Pickup -Drag Race only- WHAT A GREAT BRACKET MOTOR. In order to install the Buick in a Chevy I had to outboard the oil filter. I have done all the common oil mods to include enlarging the oil supply line that is drilled through oil pressure gauge hole. My question is can I run the return line from the remote filter in the oil pressure hole instead through remote adapter plate hole ? This looks like a lot better path for the oil to take. Oil Path Yes, you can. This is the path of least resistance and a much better method than going back thru the adaptor.
I think we need a 60' and quarter mile time plus MPH in order to answer this question! Have you run the truck with this combo yet or is it just in the works? It looks good in the picture and maybe even a combination I could afford! Ken
S10 Thanks for the quick replys. I ran the car last summer with great success. 455 + 30 stage 1 stock heads, no oil on drivers side lifter galley worn cam ,bad head gasket, 30,000 Hard street miles. Truck weight is 2820 with me inside. Turbo 400 3.50 ford 9 inch ran 12.1 @112 all summer. The air up here in Mt is about 5000 ft. I am just going to freshen it up this winter so "WATCH ME GO " Some really eaeley pix.
I LOVE the black motor! I bet most people don't even know what it is under the hood! You need to finish it off with some 350 stickers on it! Where did you come up with the headers? I looked to do a SBC S-10 years ago but gave up because I couldn't find headers for the angle plug heads I had. You'll have to keep us posted on the "new" numbers. Ken

I agree Ron, Could you give us some details about doing the swap? Would stock manifolds fit in there? I thought I saw some fabricated motor mounts in the big header picture? Those headers did look like a LOT of work! How did you weld them up? The large picture looked like thay were tacked with a gas weld of did you mig them? Ken

Oil Bypass Ron, You should be safe with a 3/8 NPT. I know some people that go out to 1/2 NPT, but there is a good chance of breaking through. All depends on the block and how much core shift, etc. Steve
I used to work for a hose and supply shop and a lot of those steel fittings have a lot of room to be opened up and chamfered for better flow. We had a small lathe there and I was always building custom fittings for guys for race cars and also big rigs. With the cost of diesel fuel these days, all those guys wanted to do was burn as much as they could! I would stick with a steel fitting so it wouldn't get too weak after it was bored out. Ken
Steve Thanks for the quick reply .I measured all the clearences after conditiong the rods and I have 2.5 thousandes clearence both rods and maines . This is only a drag race engine and I hope this is not to loose?

I thought about doing your combo about 10 years ago and ran into a steering problem that a rack and pinion would have fixed( steering shaft hit the back of the head), was wondering what route you took?
Look at all of Ron's posts. He just did a short write up of the install for all of us that were begging for details. The steering was handled with very custom headers and an extra u-joint in the steering system. I'd have to agree that the rack is always a good way to handle these things while throwing a little weight out of the car too! Ken
S10 steering The orignal steering box was replaced with one from a Vegga and I used some parts forom a Chevy van and some Hot Rod parts. RonJ
