FINALLY its time to turn the beast over, after problem after irritating problem..... However, Im concerned the oil is not flowing like it should. I have one those HV/HP oil pumps and when I put the drill to it it takes a great deal of power to turn it. It took so much out of the drill that after 30-40 sec's of priming my GOOD Dewalt drill started smoking! This cant be normal! I know when we primed it last (didnt get it started, problem with fuel line) we never saw any oil flow through the hole in the valve cover--- shouldnt it be clearly visible? Someone tell me if they have any ideas where the stoppage or oil pump problem is before I ruin my motor! TIA, Leon
priming I had same problem with my motor with the high vol pump, smoked one of my drills to. It seemed to take forever for oil to come through the rockers but eventually it did. I would try giving it enough time for oil to circulate, it might be pushing vasoline through oil passages making it even harder for oil to pass through, you are using vasoline in pump right? Hope this helps. Allen
That almost sounds like you have .000 gap between the gears and the housing. You may want to try and check that. T/A sells a gasket shim kit. I had a similar problem. I ran the drill, luckily for only a short time but noticed that it was really having to work. I could also see, but luckily not feel, marks in the cover from gears when I removed it. When I took the oil pump cover off I added the .002 (??) gasket. So I now had two gaskets in there. That made a world of difference, though. Drill ran easier. My car has great oil pressure and no oiling problems.........that I'm aware of.
I also smoked a drill doing that. It just takes a lot of torque to trun in cold thick oil. Make sure you use a large 1/2 inch drill, no less
