While I had the GS running today for the first time in over 4 months, I kept checking the temperature and oil pressure. I just purchased the car in late december, so I've never really run the car. I don't know exactly how the engine is yet. I let it idle for @ 1 hr today. The temp got to @180, and the oil pressure was just a hair under 30. Is this ok:Do No: I know it will need a complete tune-up service before I start running it, just checking to see if it's a good start.

What RPM was the 30psi? You should have minimum 10 psi per 1000rpm. 30psi at idle is excellent, when warm.

I'm not sure of the exact idle speed, no tach in the car yet:Do No: . I would guess @ 800 rpm:Do No: That would be my best educated ( or not ) guess.

Yes, good pressure at idle but....

It makes me think there may be a high volume oil pump on there. :Do No:

check the spring in the pump. if it's red you need to replace it with the white one because to much oil pressure will reck the front of your cam gear. It will make it razor sharp.

I'll try to get it checked before I start running it much.

P.S. you from Hudson NY? I'm originally from Greenville NY, just across the river from you. My parents still live there, and I take a few trips a year to see them.

Not necessarily, the engine I have on the dyno right now runs at just over 30 at idle , 900 rpm, hot, after the cam breakin and makes almost 75 hot at 6000 rpm, no high volume pump, just a thrust plate.
The main clearances are .003 rods are .0025 and the oil is conventional 20w50. Jim Burek P.A.E ENTERPRISES.

300:Do No: Is that a typo:Do No: That's a lot of pressure if it's not:jd: I didn't look much when it was cold, but I did check it once. I thought it said @ 60 lbs pressure idling cold. Again, not sure of the idle speed :Do No: But was enough that it ran ok without trying to die every few seconds. Also didn't sound like an airplane trying to fly away :Do No: I need to get a tach hooked up to it.:Brow:

oops, yeah, that was a typo, I already corrected it to 30 instead of 300. Jim Burek

How many HP does it take to run a 300 PSI oil pump:grin:

30 psi at idle is excellent. Not really great to idle for an hour though. That's just teasing that poor GS.
