Ok. Until recently my oil pressure has always run high on my skylark. Stock gauge would peg out cold start in the morning, drop just a little when engine warmed up. My question is what is the pressure reading on a stock gauge? Car is a 72. Took a ride this afternoon and noticed after she warmedup pressure was at the halfway mark just cruising about 55. with engine running in park its just a hair above halfway, in gear it drops halfway on the mark. still cold start it pegs out on the gauge. Should I still put the TA oil pump setup in, or leave it alone?

I forgot to say, I've got a Poston high volume oil pump.

Leave it alone until you put a real oil gauge on it. That's the only way you are going to know what your oil pressure is. Your stock gauge reading depends on what sending unit you have installed. Some are 60 psi units, some are 80.

Thank Larry. I'll look into another gauge. Are the Autometer brand good gauges?

    autometer gauges

i have a cluster of autometer gauges - temp, oil pressure, voltage - mounted under the dash above the console . took several hours to install . they are not expensive but they work well . the only problem i encountered was sealing the oil pressure sending unit & the temp sending unit from leaking . i think that these units may be metric sized . took a lot of thread sealer to stop the leaks .
my oil pressure registers , with stock oil pump , about 42 lbs at 60 mph .

They are the best IMHO. Get a mechanical gauge, 3421 or 3321 Autometer.

don't forget the actual copper pressure line ($9.95) :Smarty:

dont use the nylon supplied one.

I'll keep all this in mind when purchasing gauges. I thank you for your support.

I checked my oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Got 55 psi at idle cold. 22 or 23 warm at idle. I borrowed the gauge from a buddy so its under the hood. Don't know what it is while driving. Revied it up a little warm. Pressure went up to 40 psi. Not so sure i need to do anything about the high volume pump with these readings.:( They sound pretty good to me.
