Hello from the Netherlands. Another oil pressure question. When I start the engine after a few days it takes 5 to 6 sec. before I have oil pressure. A little to long in my opinion. Engine is rebuild with the right clearances. I have a new timing cover with a hi volume pump built in. But the old oil filter housing. A Ta oil pressure regulator a boosterplate and an AC-Delco filter. 10w40 oil and no oil pressure problems when engine is hot. So is it possible the filter drains back?? Or is there some other problem. Thanks.
I would avoid using an AC Delco filter - they always rate at the bottom of the scale on oil filter tests, along with Fram. If you can get a Wix filter, I highly recommend it. If not, see if you can get a Purolator or Bosch (not sure if they still do, but last report I've read, Purolator makes Bosch filters).
A " Wix " brand oil filter as stated above should help you with your issue. Or a " Napa Gold " brand oil filter.
I think wix makes the napa gold... Mine takes 2-3 seconds, but I can't recall if I have a delco or valvoline, as I have both on the shelf (I think wix makes valvoline too). When I change oil next, I'll make sure I change brands and update. I don't expect any difference though...
I tried a NAPA filter once. It look noticeably longer for the oil light to go out versus an AC filter. AC Delco for life!!:TU:
There's a reason why the AC Delco flows oil "faster" - because it's a substandard filter (hate to say). AC Delco doesn't manufacture their filters - they're sourced from Champion Labs (or possibly other 3rd party makers). You might want to go here and scroll down to the section, "Filters to Avoid" http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/opinions.html Also: http://www.300cforums.com/forums/general-discussion/31190-oil-filters-dissected.html Go here: http://home.mindspring.com/~cewhite3nc/index.html ... and open the AC Delco and Wix filters side-by-side and read the differences.
I use a System1 filter. I've had it for about 7-8 years now on my 455. Only a 1 psi drop across the filter. Back when I bought it, it was only 75.00, now that same short filter is 130.00, but it is the last filter you will ever buy. Stainless steel mesh filter, goes together with O rings (I'm still on my original set). You can inspect the filter element easily at oil changes, or in between. You can add an anti drain back valve if you want. The anti drain back valve adds a little restriction to the filter according to System1. I tried it both ways and noticed no difference in how fast the oil pressure responded, so I have left it out.
go with wix. taking a few seconds to register, is not a problem you can solve. if you have a problem, its too late to see. anything below 10 to 15 lbs at idle scares me. are you using a idiot light or a gauge. a gauge gives you good info on your engine. jim
Using a gauge Jim, allways. I am looking for the wix here in europe. any sugestions in the US???? Thanks everybody.
Found one at RockAuto Parts.com http://info.rockauto.com/WIX/DetailWIX.htm?www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartDetail.asp?Part=51258 Thread Size: 13/16-16 is this correct????
Still not satisfied, How is it possible the oil filter drains back??? Because all oil gallerys are up going. So in my opinion the filter never can drain back. Are Im wrong guys??
i have been using the wix 51258 for 8 years now. i do have an old unused fram filter i purchased 10 years ago as one of six that i obtained at a store going-out-of-business sale. back then fram manufactured quality filters right here in canada.
