What years were these two different oil pick up used? The larger diameter tube would be in later years? 20240227_162016.jpg

Yes, bigger tube was in later years. The split is somewhere along the 70 to 71 model year. I believe everything 69 and down was the small tube and 72 up was the big tube but during the changeover years, maybe only the Stage 1 got the bigger tube and in 71 they were using up old stock? Don't quote me on that.

You can use the bigger tube on the earlier engines and drill out the block oil passages from 1/2" to 9/16" pretty easily. Some folks go all the way to 5/8" but I get nervous seeing that much coming out of the block. You would also want the bigger/later front cover as it has larger passages, too.

Thanks, this was supposed to be a two part question, but I dropped the ball.
The other question was regarding the inlet oil screen relief valve. Is there an acceptable practice of sealing or plugging the relief valve, if it no longer sets flush?
I see where the TA, oil pick up do not have the valve.

    A
AMP makes a replacement screen which does not have the valve and the mesh is bigger

I see the screens for sale, you mentioned.
Never gave that much thought, but good idea. The oil is pulled up and right in the filter. Good place to catch, also don't have to drop the pan, to check or clean.
