Hi Guys Anyone have a good method to seal a 455 oil pump? Seams like the gaskets they give in the sets just never do a great job. Any thoughts Thanks Leo
What most guys think are the pump cover gaskets, is actually the front of the pan or front seal seepage. Having said that, these old cars leak oil. Even if you manage to seal it, it will leak somewhere else a few months later. I've accepted it. A few drops here and there, no big deal for me any more.
You could try spray high tach on the oil pump cover gasget. Tighten evenly . But a cover leak would loose you some pressure. And you would have a constant leak. yours dont look too leaky.
Yeah, I did a full restoration and took extra care to make sure i wouldn't have any leaks. But of course, things leaking now. Most are just occasional oil drops here and there except the pump seal on the transmission (the one thing I didn't replace). Leaks like crazy, but I'm waiting to be in the right mood to pull out the tranny and replace it. I really hate pulling transmissions.
I agree. Pain when you rebuild an engine and still have leaks. Worse part is having dual electric fans that blow it back under the car. Ug! Hopefully it doesn't get much worse.
Spray it down with brake cleaner and blow it dry with compressed air. Once everything is clean and dry, you can pinpoint it easily. My 455s don't leak. The beater was dry as a bone underneath
