my 72 riviera is not running yet, but if i put oil all up in the cylinders n block n cam (its down to the block, the heads are off to be cleanded up), would it be all right to put oil on it then put the heads n valve covers on and leave it set so nothing can get inside????

Personnally, I'd wait til I had the engine it the car before I put all the oil in it. Lubing the cylinders and stuff when you assemble the engine should be good for preventing any surface rust while you store the engine. You could also get some desicant pellets and put then on the engine and wrap it up with plastic and they will pull the moisture away from the engine also. You should be able to find the pellets at a packaging supply store or maybe an office supply store that sells storage materials for records etc. Heck, you might even try your local auto parts store. They might have some from some of their orders that they have shipped in. If so you probably get them for nothing. Good luck, West Virginia!
