What is a good brand of oil filter to use?I have always used FRAM but I thought I read some bad press on these filters.
i use purolator and motorcraft. same filter, i just don't want a ford emblem on the buick. delco seems to be iffy as of late, and i won't touch a fram/pennzoil. wix/napa filters are good, and that covers just about all wildly available paper filters that i can think of.
Dave, See the "reusable oil filters" thread in the Race 400-430-455 Forum. System 1 oil filters are excellent. High initial cost, but you never buy another oil filter again. Just my .02
I like the FRAM Tough Guard (grey). A little more money but better filter.....but I've never had a problem with the cheap orange ones tho. The orange ones use cardboard end gaskets that people were ragging on but cardboard swells when it gets oil on it and probably seals just fine. If I know I'm going to be changing it soon like during break in I use the orange FRAM. K & N makes a nice oil filter. Have a HP one now, too. MOROSO has a HP filter that has better flow due to larger micron rating....might be good for racing but don't have one to fit Buick. Too bad AC stopped making the UltraGuard....anyone know why?....maybe just marketing. Bruce
Check out this thread and you will see why AC filters are the way to go. Down with FRAM!:moonu: This guy has really put some time and money to finding out who makes the best filters. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
