What other full size oil filter options have y’all gone with?
I notice the recommended Purolator One #PL25288, STP Extended Life #S3675XL, and Mobil-1 #M1-206A are much smaller compared to the WIX #51258 and MicroGard Select #MSL51258.
I know everyone swears by WIX, but I’m really impressed with the $11 MicroGard Select. Has silicone for both anti-drain back valve and gasket, metal end caps, coil spring, metal core, and synthetic resin media. The powder coat finish is really nice as well and it’s heavier compared to this WIX.

After Oreilly’s Auto Parts, I brought the MicroGard Select along with me to Autozone so I could compare what they had available for our Buicks. Their house brand is STP, but unfortunately the higher end “Extended Life” XL filter is the smaller sized one. The STP XL series looks very similar in quality and materials to the MicroGard Select. Looks like another solid choice! Hopefully they come out with a bigger version S25XL soon.

MicroGard Select Extended Life #MSL51258 $10.99
    STP #S25 $5.79
    STP Extended Life #S3675XL $9.99
    Mobil-1 Extended Performance #M1-206A $14.99
    Mobil-1 Extended Performance #M1-107A $14.99

    Hi,

I personally noticed years go Wix/NAPA filters that the short version had the anti-drawback valve the taller version did not.
This was for a 300/225 not sure if the same for later Buick engines.

    Regards,
    Jim

These ones I have pictured all fit the 455. I’ll have to double check on the others

Baldwin B9, but I use the late model oil filter adapter which angles the oil filter differently so this bigger filter can be used. But Baldwin B39 is stock size

I have a '75 350 motor fitted in a Toyota truck and I'm about to fit a 90 degree filter adapter plate designed for a Ford engine. This should make filter changes easier and also sit the filter vertically and eliminate the drain back problems I am seeing when not started for a few days. The adapter plate has a 22mm x 1.5mm nipple and usually holds a motorcraft fl 500 filter. The 350 uses a 13/16 nipple. The standard wix 51258 filter has no bypass and can flow 9-11 GPM. Has anyone got a recommendation for a filter with similar spec but with the 22mm fitment?
