Fyi the oil filter that fits cadillac 4.5 litre V8 including the northstar 4.6 fits the nailhead and it's narrower than the stock nailhead filter. Which may give you more header room.

 Yep, it works well. Short of bending a tube on my Poston headers, the smaller filter is the only way to go.

Joe, can you give me the exact application or part number of the oil filter that will clear the headers on the 401? I fiqure now's the time to put the replacement filter on.... before the headers are installed!! Thanks, Frank

I think I've got a spare filter in the garage. I'll check and get back to you. BTW, I used a cross reference chart that showed filters by the thread size and gasket size and matched to the smaller filter. The local hardware store had the chart and the filters. Should be able to do same at autoparts stores. (This in case I don't get back to you soon enough).:beer

I would appreciate a brand name and part number. I stopped at parts store and asked about interchange and thread size, and the teenager behind the counter said. "huh?"

Not 100% sure, but I think the oil filter mentioned above may have been a Group 7 p/n V123.:Do No:

Frank, the manufacturer's name is actually "Group 7", a private-label purolator filter I've been told but who knows. The Purolator number will be something like L200123, all I remember is that it ends with "123". Gotta hate when the mind isn't as sharp as it used to be....:Dou:

How about one more tip for me? What model and year caddy am I looking for ? I went to the purolator site, and it said pl2588 for one type of caddy with the 4.6. Can anyone that runs headers on a 65-66 skylark/GS , please give me the brand and part number of the filter they run, that allows an oil change without removing the headers? I would greatly appreciate the help.
