I rebuilt my 350 three months ago and since then I have put almost 2000 miles on my car. Today I checked the oil level and found that it had gone thru one quart of oil. I must say that my car has a visible oil drop at the flywheel guard but it is not noticeable since it doesnt even accumulate on the ground.

Is it normal for new engines to consume oil?

There is no evidence of blue smoke coming out the tail pipe, at all.

my theory is that not until recently I adjusted my fast idle on my car and that maybe that was causing the oil pressure to spike and blow it by. I have also noticed some oil around the valve cover grommet for the breather hose that goes to the air cleaner.

    thanks ahead of time.

are the valve seals new? that would be my first guess. my car ate lots of oil before but did not put out smoke. it was mostly due to the valve seals, as evidenced my black grime all around some of the exhaust ports.

I know my car goes through approx 1 qt of oil every 3,000 miles. No smoke or drips on the ground, but every once in a while there is a little pool of it on my timing cover. Mine is probably gaskets... brblx makes a good point with the valve seals, as well.

I had about a quart go on me every 3000...I also had the pool on the timing cover that never went away...even when I wiped it clean.

This was due to my engine having 138000 miles on it though. Old cars leak....

Have you been tearing the hell out of it? That sucks oil too
