Any of you Ohio folks get blown away by tornadoes this weekend? Looked pretty bad on TV.

Unfortunately there were a few fatalities in some areas (Like Van Wert, close to the Indiana border). We were pretty much okay in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland), Lorain County, and Lake County - just a nasty thunderstorm to us. It swept across the state, as most of our storms and tornados do. Funnel clouds touched down in a few areas, but I don't think anywhere close to my area.

The odd thing is this is not tornado season. We are used to getting them in the Spring, not in November. We went from 40-degree weather last week to 60s for the weekend, making conditions perfect for a nasty storm. I believe this is the same storm front that Northern CA had 3 days ago.

The news over did it, though, following the storm inch by inch with radar. They used to just post the type of warning and for what area in the corner of the TV screen, and you knew if you needed to head for the basement or not. Now they do a two-hour emergency news cast, count the lightening strikes, and show lots of fancy computer graphics. Nothing better than the old way, just more time consuming and sensational. Kind of makes you feel like Chicken Little.

I live just east of Clevaland, just heavy rain, & wind here. now the leaves are finally off the trees. Nice day today!in the 50's. Nice enough that i took the'71 out for a ride. We seem to miss the brunt of the storms here. Randy

We had some nasty wind and lightning like i've never seen before!! Hortizontal rain is never a good thing. Awesome display of nature. Had several tornado warnings in my area...as far as I know nothing close to home though.....haven't watched the news yet!

Remember when a warning meant that they actually spotted a tornado. Now they say warning and its for the next hour. I don't get it! Me, my two daughters and our two dogs were in the basement for about an hour while Denny was our skywatcher! Oh what a night it was.......

Had a pretty bad day today with the tornado thing...I'm an insurance agent and we've had many claims for wind damage, the worst being a home completely wiped off the face of the earth...nothing left but some of the foundation. The people were at home watching TV when the storm hit. The wife has a broken leg and is listed in fair condition, the husband has internal injuries and critical. I'll see if I can post a picture or two...

Hope your customers will be ok..

Any idea where the house went?.. and it is common to have no basement in OH?

Yea, we know where it went...see the picture below. Most homes here do have a basement. This was a modular home...stick built in a factory. The tornado was a F4 so no matter what your house was made of, it was GONE.

I went to a BCA regional meet in NC, and was on my way home through all that mess. The wind was so bad it blew a semi into the median, and laid it on it's side. I was driving my 37 coupe, and the wind moved it around quite a bit, but we got through it in good shape. I wish I had known how bad it was going to be,and I would have stayed in NC and partied an extra day. The rain was the worst I have ever encounterd, and I found some leaks I did not know I had.:( :(

    Andy,
Yep, Union County. The tornado was first spotted just inside Logan county near West Mansfield and went across Union county - about 10 miles on the ground. Classic southwest to northeast track. I'm a SkyWARN weather spotter in Union County and I've never seen such total devistation. I mean, there is nothing left of that home. Can't even find many of the contents. In fact, what was salvagable will fit in a small box. There was a 30 x 40 pole garage next to the home...totally gone. In that last picture I was showing the debris field of the tornado. There is another vehicle beyond the Jimmy laying on it's side...a 90 F150 that was torn in half by the windstorm and deposited in (and next to...) a pond.

Crazy day for sure. Sounded like a war zone with all the sirens going off. Hope those affected recover and get their lives put back together.

I thought us folks in Texas and Oklahoma had some bad tornadow, but you folks in Ohio have had some bad ones as well. This recent tornado looked close to an F5 to me with that much damage. And in November?? What's up with that.

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

The strength of Good Ole Mother nature is simply amazing. Both Terrific and Terrifying in the same instant.

I was once on vacation in the Carribean on a small Island scuba diving. One plane on and one plane off the island a day...period.

Well.....to make a long story short, I lived through a Cat. 5 hurricane simply because we couldn't get off the island..... those were 7 of the most terrific/terrifying, LOONNNGG hours of my life, mostly spent video taping....then wishing it would end. I predicted the Eye within 15 min. using the barometer feature of my dive watch. 45 minutes of calm blue skies....then all hell broke loose. the Backside was just as bad as the front.

Everytime i hear people on TV saying"No.....we're gonna stick it out...have a Hurricane Party !!" I think.....IDIOTS !!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES !!!!

I think of Hurricane's like a 300 pound LineBacker running right toward you.....you can stand there and see if he hits you or not....or you can RUN !!!!

Tornado's are another story.....usually they're ontop of you before you know it.....
