Yesterday turned out to be rough. I am putting the finishing touches on an old building next to my house that I have turned into a place to park the Buicks. It is a converted horse barn that hasn't been used in years. Meanwhile, my father has had a company install a new metal building close to my converted barn. It is 90% done. The electrician shows yesterday and says he will not be coming next week, but will be here today. So at lunch, I left and rented a rider ditch witch. While I had it, why not dig all lines like power to my building, my father's and then the water lines to both? Many hundred feet of ditches. Great day to do it with 60 degree weather and sun :) . With the help I had, I could get the pipe in the ditches and get them covered up before night :Brow: . After getting half way on the last ditch, I saw water churning behind me. My memory had failed me and I had cut right through my water line and had one hell of a mess . A small electric line was cut along with the water line. 5 minutes after cutting it, rain started falling. Then the rain got worse as we dug. Not only cut the line once, I cut the corner off of it, so it got cut twice. 6 feet to the right and I would have missed it all. I worked late last night to get water back in the home only to find small gravel trapped in my pressure regulator and blocking water. I rigged that together to find my toilets and faucets stopped up too! Got enough fixed to get the wife happy, but now I have a job ahead. It poured the rain all night, and now the ground is solid white with snow and only expected to get worse. I have ditches everywhere and my drive blocked with 2 crossing it. An electrician and plumber will be coming today. Well, time to get off the keyboard and into the ditch. Wish me luck!! :Dou:

Sounds like a good example of " Whatever can go wrong will go wrong".
Almost like deciding to change the carpet in your car and it turns into a frame off.
Just take a step back, look at what you were trying to accomplish, give yourself a :Dou: , have a good laugh at yourself, and then go fix.

6 hours of digging by myself with a shovel and pick. Now, I have one ditch filled with the new water line and elect. line in the bottom of it. It was a pain! After 2 inches of rain last night and snow most of today, I was a mud ball. 25 mile per hour winds. Muck knee deep. The banks fell in on several areas of the ditches last night. This has become a major job thanks to my short memory and mother natures attitude. My back is now weaker than my 90 yr. old grandmother's, my testicles are laying in one of the ditches and I had to buy a suspender for my elongated hemroid. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Can you rent an insturment that will detect a PVC pipe? I have used one for cast pipes, but never for PVC.
