I want 'em if I can use 'em on my 340. But what's that 3.8mm spec? I'm just guessing the 1mm spec is thickness (~0.040") which'll drop me to about 9-1/2 CR but I guess that'll be OK. 0.020" would give me 10 which I'd like better but maybe that's too much to ask. About .050" big on the bore, don't guess that'll hurt anything though. Only concern would be coolant holes so I guess I'd better go buy a cheap 350 head gasket and check those. If that pans out, count me in.

yea, they're only like 8 bucks at advance auto

i'm sure the different bore..standard. .010, .030 etc and thickness wouldnt cost any extra..

amd yea, mine was .040 thick...as stock i beleive is .042 thick

I can't see this much money for head gaskets . I am running stock gaskets with a lot of compression and never had any failure . I had the heads and block milled for trueness before assembly , ARP bolts and correctly torqued . This motor has been together a long time and had not been treated easy . I gotta see more reason the spend that much on head gaskets .

    Bill,
thanks for the input . We have one motor here , 15-1 and 3 stage juice and are still not having a head gasket failures (yet) . I just figured with this much compression and 3 stages would be comparable cylinder pressures . I would love to see cylinder pressures on these at top end . Got to be some big numbers .

At last I have a definite answer to that question. Maybe. It depends on what he did with the pushrod holes mostly. I have a 340 and a 350 head gasket. The 350 has a round chamber, the 340 is bumped out a little at the valves but both should seal fine, the chamber of both the '64 300 heads and the later iron heads is right at the edge of the 350 gasket though. The difference in volume is negligible. See the "pistons" thread for photos. The 350 gasket also has guide holes for the pushrods where the 340 one does not.

This is the biggest issue because the center lobes of the 340 are splayed somewhat to get around the center intake ports, meaning the pushrods will contact the gasket in the 4 center positions. This part of the gasket's only function seems to be to stiffen the two end stubs and could easily be left off, and then it would fit both the 300/340 and the 350. This section could be cut off but if you're paying that much for gaskets not many will want to do that.

If the gasket is modified in that way, I would recommend that the cylinder opening be bulged at the intake valve by 1/16" or so to put it a little farther outside the edge of the chamber.

I contacted the gasket guy and he said he could supply the gasket in other thicknesses but I don't know if this would be considered part of the group buy or not. I'm willing to send him the 340 gasket if he would consider doing the 300/340 gasket as part of the group buy since it is so similar, or would modify the 350 gasket as described above. I would want the gasket as thin as he can make it. He said different thickness were no problem, but again I don't know if that is extra. If that's not possible, no real big deal, I'll just have to pay extra to get what I want. $50 more compared to dealing with blown head gaskets is cheap insurance.

Feel free to check on that if you want. I'll email him again first chance I get but I'm going on vacation friday and will be gone for a week.

I emailed John, he said that if you guys wanted to authorize it, it sounded like it would be possible to make one gasket that would work for all of the 350, 340 and 300 engines by elongating the 4 center pushrod holes and possibly bumping out the cylinder hole 1/16" at the intake valve. Don't know if anyone but me wants them though.

I'll probably just wait and order the thinnest ones I can get, send them a gasket, all that stuff. Not much of a hurry on it really. I want the higher compression.

well we only official have 3 people in the group buy,, we need to atleast 1more purchase to get the first price drop guys, so the ones whom didnt send me their email that wants in do it now.

if everyone followed through we would have hit the 2nd price drop...i dont want it to seem like i wasted my time getting a group buy together for only 3 people to pay the same price for gaskets as did... so make it worth there wild and atleast oenmore person step uo for real and get the forst price drop bracket!

Ok, I'm late getting in here and have not read all the post. What quench area are you'll shooting for with these gaskets? I was just at the machine shop to check on my engine today and was discussing this with the machinists. I'm bringing it home in a few days to check valve clearance and deck height and see about setting up the valve springs for the Chevy valves.
    Thanks,
    Jim N.
