That was awesome. I noticed the Gremlin (I think it was a Gremlin) at the end was not easy to drive. After my last car (73 Century) I was looking all over for a Gremlin to join in unholy matromony with my 455/Al heads. I ended up buying a 68 Sportwagon instead. Therre goes the plan for like a 1000lbs diet. Killer vid., thanx.
Where was that from? Byron dragway in Byron ILL. has a contest like that for some big bucks to the winner, they wreck alot of expencive stuff to put on a show. I have never seen it in person just video of some of them. I think that orange gremlin won one year. Tom
Thats byron for sure. This is a every year deal to close out the season. This year was 8000.00 to win.8k isn't enough to fix the car after you roll it but someone ends up rolling one every year.
thats so sweet, my goal to to be able to lift my front tires of the ground jsut a wee bit. But i feel so bad for some of thouse guys, they put alot of money into thouse cars and to have the flip or rip up their back end draggin it on the pavement. Whats cool is thouse, you never see a 4 banger do weelstands and almost doing back flips.
This was at Byron, IL (our home track) Weekend before last... on the 9th. Huge turn out. They have about a 10 mile back up both ways coming into the track every year. Rod and I know the owners pretty well and they had talked about having a second wheel stand contest in the spring, but are worried that being early in the race season most are not willing to do it in fear of wrecking their car. Every year someone flips their car and just trashes it, sorry 5k isn't worth it. fun to watch though.
I just don't understand that. Entering those wheelie contests to win, what, maybe a couple hundred bucks and a trophy!?!? That can't possibly compare to the $$$ damage to the car's suspension and undercarriage.
AMAZING. I noticed the Gremlin lifted both rear tires off the ground, then when they reconnected it lifted the nose again. Quite a few of them got the car up on 1 tire. :eek2: Some looked like they landed hard enough to bend the frame. ou: Fun to watch.
Some people use $$ for toilet paper. Some of the people in that video probably fall right into that category. There is a red neck element to hot rodding. But it runs hand in hand with the Rockefeller element as well.
