I know this question has probably been asked before but here it goes. Which vendor do you guys prefer for parts? I need to buy a power steering box and power steering pump along with some other items. I am a bit more comfortable buying stuff from a well known vendor in case there are issues down the line. I live in Florida so I know about NPD being local but that's it. However, they do seem cheaper on many things than OPG not that that's a good thing. Car is currently in the shop so I am waiting to here what I need as I am thinking about getting a more up to date steering box with a better ratio. Opinions appreciated!

Buy your box from Hector here. He sells them.for $125 and they have a 2 1/2 turns lock to lock. Just search for his steering box ad.

As for OPGI and NPD, OPGI has more stuff but you have to watch for incorrect and low quality stuff.

I’ll second the Hector box. Have had mostly good experiences with OPGI.

Hector #1 his are hand built.. the rest just get local.. Nothing wrong with Napa power steering pumps. if Hector does not rebuild..
Fwiw places like opgi is the last place on earth I would buy a SG from.

Yep, there’s only a few big rebuilders of stuff like pumps and gears, and all the parts houses and suppliers use whichever one gave them the best terms (or return allowance or kickbacks or race tickets). They’re all ‘pretty good’, as are a lot of mass produced parts for older lower volume applications. Buy from someone like Hector.

I replaced the steering box with a unit from Hector last summer- first rate box and great to deal with.
Bought a new pump from Summit.

Never used NPD but you have to watch OPGI. A lot of their stuff is misidentified as fitting Buick when it won’t.

Ames Performance is a better source on generic stuff - better quality.

To my knowledge, NPD doesn’t carry Buick stuff.

I get quite a few things from NPD, they are only about 60 miles from me and if I get it shipped it usually get to me in two days. However you have to do your research to make sure it’s the correct part. I usually cross with parts from Opg

Technically, NPD doesnot market stuff as being for Buicks, but there are a LOT of parts that DO cross over as they ARE the same.

I’ve used both but I would give The Parts Place a chance. Been very successful finding what I’ve needed for my 70 resto project. And if TPP has what you need call Todd at DieCast Musclecar Parts - he’s got everything TPP has a better prices and can answer all your questions because he does restorations himself. And don’t forget to check CARS as well. Good luck.
