A few years back I took my '72 Riviera to the gas station (what else is new). As I pulled in I noticed a later 70's Nova at one of the pumps, so I decided to pull into the pump right across from it. After paying for the gas I come out and notice the guy is looking at my car. He says 'nice car' and we begin to talk about the two vehicles. He starts to brag about how his Nova has a built 383 stroker motor, 4.30 gears and pulls the wheels on its way to low 12's. I said mine is basically stock aside from headders. He then asks me what direction i was going to go on my way out, I told him and he said "I've got some time to play". We leave, I'm out in front and after getting on the main road he flys past me, then woahs up so I get next to him. Sure enough the first light we hit goes red. I kept looking over but it didn't look like he was going to get stupid, which was fine with me but as the other lights went yellow he got ready to go. Cant back down now even though I was prety sure I wouldn't stand a chance. I looked for cops and got into wholeshot mode. Light goes green and we take off and that was all over, I pulled him through the intersecetion and backed off when I was still pulling on him and he was at the rear bumper. He gets along side me and says his carb was popping and sputtering, all I could do was give him the 'your 12 second car got smoked by a 15 second cruiser with a 600 cfm carb' look. (I'm working on the carb, I know its too small)

Novas are like the prostitutes of the muscle car world...they are cheap and on every street corner...and after you've had one you aren't very pleased with yourself.

novas are way to common to ever be considered special no matter how fast they are...

fourfiftyfive My car is a mess........

Good kill... chevy not running right... what else is new? I drive one every day :Dou:

Anyways... around here... novas are a different story... theres a few "famous" ones I know I'll never beat, so I won't try... if you even say nova people will think of the few at the local cruise. I'll just have fun and beat up on the all the "little ones" with N/A sbc's and stuff... to give you guys an idea... theres a street-driven '70 nova here that does low 8's... yeah it's turbocharged and very street driven... theres yet another with a twin turbo BBC thats an absolute monster, like 1200-1300 at the wheels monster... theres even one that shows up once in a while that pulls 7.80s and is still OK to drive on the street... oh well... light car + tons of power and we all know that means.

My Bro Inlaw Had A 400 With Cherrybomb Glasspacks.i Though He Was Unbeatable . Just Did,nt Know Anybetter.well The Buick Wins 2out Of 2 By 6to 8 Cars. I Raced My 65 98 Olds [425 ]rocket .and Tied The Buick,. The Olds And The Buick Went Tit For Tat. Olds Had A Better Engine .tuff

In1973 I Had A 65 98 Olds Wth A 425 Engine And A Guy Hda A 66 Chevy Impals Ss 396 Thought It Was The Hottest Thing On The Streets.well He Saw Me Brake Torque The Olds And Went To Ramble Off About How Bad He Would Beat The Olds .well I Knew The Olds Would Run At Least 125mph .so We Hit The Expressway In Chicago At [laramie ] Going East And Exit At [cicero] Approx. A Half Mile.wellm I Beat Him By A Car And A Half And He Had A 4 Speed .he Did,nt Know Much About Engines He Had A 325 Horsepower 396 Not The Badd Solid Lifter 375 Horse 396,.all Of The G.m Cars Had Pretty Powerful Engines Back Then. But I Personialy Think Olds Had The Most Durable Engine Out Of All The G.ms They Could Take A Beating . Buicks Stock Were Fast Butthey Could Not Take A Beating Like A Olds . I Know A Guy With A 68 Wildcat That Raced A 1976 Lincoln Town Car On The Skywat On What Is Marked Of As The Flying Mile .blew The Buick To Pieces .only Thing That Was Useable Were The Intake Carb, and Valve Covers.blew So Badly Bebt The Center Links . So If You Run A Buick Take Care Of Your Oiling System First'. .what Makes A Buick A Torque Monster . The Heads . The Had What Chevy Uses Today In The 60,s Cathedrel Port Heads

Buicks Engines Are Great ,but They Are Not Strong Enough To Take A Lot Of Abuse. The Bottom End And The Oiling System Are Their Weak Link . And The Over Heat With A Weak Cooling System .i Personaily Like A Olds Better The 1965 To 1967 425 Engines Were Almost Bullitproof Forged Crank And Rods Those Things Can Take Alot Of Abuse ;i Know I Had A 1965 Olds [98] That Would Give 455 Buicks A Fit Beat That Car For 2 Years.only Thing I Did To Engine Was Tune Up And Change Oil Every 2000 Miles. And Recurve The Distributor .that Thing Was Stock Like It Come From The Factory.would Smoke The Tires A Long Way . A Old Guy Told Me I Just Got A Strong Engine.some Are A Little Stronger Than Normal.sold That Car For A 76 Buick Park Ave With A Console From Front To Rear.beautiful Car .blue With A Blue Top And Blue Crushed Velour Interior.real Snazzy .traded The Olds In . I Was Sick The Next Day.buick 455 Was A Pig Of The Line ,sucked Gas Too.top End Was Ok But Took Time To Get There Boy Did I Miss That Olds.could,nt Hurt It. But The Most Durable Engi.nailhead Have Seen Was The Mopar 318.i Work On Cars For A Living Since 1972. And I,ve Seen A Lot Of Good And Bad Engines From The Factory And I Think The Worst One I,ve Ever Saw Is The Mopar 2.7.next Would Be The Late 70,s And Early 80,s Smallblock Chevys.i Know That Thay Sucked Because My Uncle Had A Meat.co That Delivered Meat And He Had 12 Chevys And 2 Fords And 1 Mopar. Well I Replaced About 21 Engines And 20 Were Chevys .20 Chevys And Only 15 Vans . Thats more Tha 1 and Three Quarters Engnes Per Van.FORD SMALLBLOCKS ARE DURABLE and i dont like fords.i like chevys but not that over rated smallblock the first engines i had to practice on was a nail headbuick now that was a hell of engine. a customer had a 65 riv g,s 425 dual quad would run pretty good beat a 69grand prix a goat engine in it. well that 318 is the most durable engine ever in my opinon
