Look everyone can speak their mind here I have no problem with that, however I am really getting tired of the other descriptive words that some of you guys want to use. Personally I dont use as many cuss words as I use to and when I get really excited all that trash comes out (sometimes).

When you type out cuss words it really to me shows how immature you are. (If your not mature push away from the computer now) Alot of others and myself really dont want to read them and I cant go around editing them out. Please take the time to read your posts and find other discriptive words to use. If you allow all this trash talk to rule your mouth then remember this statement

    TRASH IN, TRASH OUT

I like it when my son and daughter to sit with me a read these posts since they want to be involved in my racing and all, so just remember what you post a 8 or 9 year old maybe reading. Im not the only one that has a problem with it. I have had numerous complaints emailed to me and since I am one of the main moderators I am posting my request to you to please keep it clean.

    Thank you for you cooperation.:TU:

I'll second that. I am not offended by expletives, and use them in real life when not inappropriate (there is a time and place for everything).

However, anyone can read this forum, and some share it with there children. I don't think we should swear in front of kids.

Besides, we are supposed to be going "Fast with Class." Surely we are more articulate than this.

In my jobs I've seen useful forums blocked from high school computer labs only because of the language. While our language is not likely to affect high school aged individuals, it can indirectly prevent them from participating in our community.

    Thank you Truzi

I know we have been on the opposite side of some issues before so it means alot to me and others involved that you agree that we must rise above the common to become the mark to measure from.

    Mike,

A big THANKS for posting that!!!:TU:

There really is no place for foul language on a family oriented board like this!:( Kids are very impressionable and they usually mimick the habits of those around them - in this case, what they see here.

As Mike eluded to - the mind is like programming a computer - Garbage In, Garbage Out!!

And, as the Good Book says:

    Luke 17

    2) It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.

Let's keep the Class in "Fast with Class"!!:TU:

    Gary...hmmmm you say that now.........
but.......we all know how the story ends! (By the way, I don't encourage either of my daughters to race...but one of them is just dying to get in a jr. drag)

As far as the swearing goes....I agree that we should all re-read what we type and let the words sink in before you hit the submit button. I also don't want to see someone thinking that they are so above me, or anyone else, that they think they have to censor the words that are said. If you know a person that is known for foul language..then don't read that persons post as your own personal protest. I work in a factory with a bunch of men...my language can get colorful, to say the least. I just hope that we don't have to get into a censoring mode just to make sure that some people aren't offended.

Just my thoughts...take each step carefully as you never know where the next step may lead you.

    gotbuick What, me worry?

I've always said that if a person has to cuss and swear in everyday speech, than that shows there depth of education. So many third grade educations never made it to the next level, too bad. :ball:

jerry, i don't think the cursing is all the time. a lot of guys only work on their cars once a week or so.

we all get a little peeved sometimes, as long as it isn't gratuitous, i frankly don't care if you use an occasional expletive.:Do No:

Well I am not at all surprized at the comments here. I love to chat on this board but when I decide to use cuss words I use them like this
    S*** F***
Well you get the picture I can explain that to my kids I cant explain the word itself. I have about 15 emails from several others who now agree with what I have printed here. SO as far as Im concerned it should be an understanding that we do not use foul language on our posts. If anyone has a problem with that as far as Im concerned you have a BAD CASE of keyboard diarea and you should seek help from a professional.

So lets keep it clean :Comp:

This programing can automatically replace the letters in any word I specify, with an *... I just never set it up to do so..

IF we want this, start a new topic, and set up a pole.. if it is voted in, then I will need the "list" of words we would like to specify that they not be displayed.

Here is the text, from that control panel option:

    Words to censor
Type all words you want censored in the field below. Do not use commas to separate words, just use spaces. For example, type "dog cat boy", rather than "dog, cat, boy." If you type "dog", all words containing the string "dog" would be censored (dogma, for instance, would appear as "***ma"). To censor more accurately, you can require that censors occur only for exact words. You can do this by placing a censor word in curly braces, as in {dog}. Signifying "dog" in the curly braces would mean that dogma would appear as dogma, but dog would appear as "***". Thus your censor list may appear as: cat {dog} {barn} barn
Do not use quotation marks and make sure you use curly braces, not parentheses, when specifying exact words.
This field can contain a maximum 250 characters.

Works like this... is already set up for one word..

    **** you

15 may sound like a small number but to me that seems like enough to matter. i really dont see why this would be real tough to do but thats just me. and.....i am not real sure of the origin of this keyboard diarea sickness.........but i have a feeling i don't want to be infected:gt:

How are ya Pal. You bring up a great point for discussion. I too have a 9 1/2 year old boy and 8 year old girl. Oh Renee he wants to run the Jr. Drags also. I told him when Buick starts building lawn mower engines we will do it. He's coming to Norwalk in May, he wants that $2 a pound of ice cream. I'll settle for a cup of slushies.

Anyway getting back to the point. I would agree on the language problem. I know most (myself included) have in the past had an infliction of a runny mouth to keyboard. Yeah I know it's not proper, but sometimes things do happen. I would figure that there are some that just swear normally without any thought to it and those people present the offensive problem. And I can see that being a problem. Me personally, I don't care, if it's that bad I'll skip the post. Just like I would change the channel on the TV if I find a program offensive. (Freedom of choice). Well with my two munchkins, the internet is and always was off limits unless either me or my wife are actually sitting beside with them. Any adult steered sites that we approve on (of course not porn) like this the V8 Board for example, I scan first prior to him reading anything. Just like certain TV programs. We will watch it first, after that we then decide if it's a yes or no. Let me throw this one out there. How many of you parents of young kids alow them to watch the Simpson or worse yet South Park. Simpsons are off limits, unless certain topics that I have already seen and agree on that they can watch, most I don't. As with South Park, I love it, but my kids will never see it.

Now with us grown-ups I can fully respect ones views towards bad language and agree...to a point. I like the idea if it's nasty, just don't read it. By automatically censoring words will eventually lead to censorship of other things. Like for instance the little smile guy who moons us or the violent smile guys with the gun (who is is shooting at) or the two smiles that are drinking beer, see what I mean. I guess the next step would be censor the props, like my Avatar, because it may be seen as sexist or smutt. Now we will lose some of that adult semi clean humor which I find fun to read and joke with. Where would it end? Oh and I have a Masters in Education with a Bach. Degree in Criminal Law and minor in Psyc. So I'm not a 3rd grade pooper (can I say that :eek2: ) Just joking here on that part guys, please don't get defensive on me here.

The bottom line is I agree that we should police ourselves, and not allow forced restricted censorship rules be placed on us. Oh and to those that may wonder, I'm a Conservative Republican, not a Liberal radical New Yorker. I just see this could lead into other avenues that would make this site as fun as eating cardboard for breakfast.:gt: Lets leave the policing and censorship on an case by case incident based on complaints and posted messages made by the moderators of this board. Heck that's their job, right? To moderate.

Sorry guys I agree with you but voted "no" on automatic censorship.

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

While I may agree that some censorship is, indeed, necessary, I also believe that we are all smart enough to know what MAY be offensive to some and not to ourslves. I would think that we could all trust each other on this forum and use the better judgement to not choose to talk this way. My rule of thumb is "What would my Mom say to me if I said this to her?' If I think she would hit me, Then I edit it before I hit the "submit" button. Just my $.02 worth.

P.S. Don't dog on me because I respect my mother. If more teenagers did, then maybe this would be more of the country we all grew up to love!

  16. SmittyDawg

    SmittyDawg Need another garage....

I agree with Rick. It's probably a very few that are the "offenders" here, and should be handled on a case by case basis. While I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination (just ask JW!), I can and do watch what I say and what my kids see. I think we are very able to police ourselves on this. An occasional expletive may fly out of my mouth (or keyboard) also, but certainly not gratuitously, and usually only when I break off a bolt in the GS block!
My kids were well into their teens before they were allowed to watch the Simpsons because I felt that the content was too adult for them, and I also got cable installed just a year ago for the same reasons. My wife is a Deputy Sheriff who worked at the Ramsey County jail for 12 years. Needless to say, in an environment of mostly men and about a hundred inmates daily, the language used around there was very colorful as the norm. That kind of stuff rubs off when you're around it eight hours a day, five days a week. It was very difficult for her to not let things "slip" out at home, so I know that it can be difficult in everyday speech to prevent this sometimes. But when we're on the keyboard, I think consiously typing an expletive with some ***'s would get the point across if we're upset.
    Sorry to ramble.....my .02 worth......

    Censorship

    Rick

    Very good points!!
If there is a problem with one or two people doing this all the time, then something should be done or addressed with that person induvidulaly (sp?) not everyone. I think that most people on this board are mature enough to know where the line must be drawn.
    Just my opinion.
