I can't take it anymore. It's time to throw Boyd off the air. The guy cannot operate a business to save his life. Saw the latest show where one quits, he fires a gal for not calling in sick the day before (strict policy, no exceptions).
She worked for Roy and he was hacked he fired her.
He and Duane (punk who needs to be taken out back to the dumpster for a short and swift group "intervention" involving some Earl's braided hose) then pull all of them in the office one by one to ask if they're "real team players" who are willing to work weekends to get their latest project done. Most of them are ready to walk. I say put the ex-wife in charge.
While I'm on my soap box, the show prior to that I see where Boyd's "new and improved" wife actually grabs a tape measure and starts to "work" on the car herself in order "to get the guys moving".
As Otis once said to Andy "hit her in the mouth with a leg of lamb".
    I feel better now.

I am inclined to say that that most veiwers actually LIKE this type of behavior, and keep watching it. The show uses 20 minutes of material out of 80 hours of taping! A close friend of mine (Eric Brockmeyer) works with Boyd quite often. Eric is a super laid back guy, who does not work well with a**holes. I asked him if Boyd was actually an idiot. He does not know why the show makes him out to be that way. Shame I guess. :Do No:

I never watch the show anymore. I can not tolerate all the whining and complaining about who doesn't do what.

I deffinently dislike the very bad langauge!

What you see on that show is pretty typical of the automotive world. Or at least in all my years of wrenching at different shops and dealerships. I would have figured it being a high end rod shop that it would be different, but everytime I watch that show I get a lump in my stomach as it brings back all kinds of bad memories. :Dou:

Boyd and his toady supervisor are like alot of my old bosses and supervisors. :blast: :blast:

i'm sure the show can make him look anyway they want, but he's already run one business into the ground......i cracked up when i was watching rides and foose was doing the caddie's and guess who the new painter is? the dude from boyd's(who seemed like the only level headed one that got any camera time) whose quote was something like "i've worked for foose about three weeks now, i had been working for...another local shop for a few years..."

How much drama can you get out of a few guys turning wrenches? Not much. Now how much drama can you get when you start throwing "writers" in the mix.

Same deal with "American choppers". If Paul sr. was really that way......his kid would have opened his own shop, and put the old man out of buisness! :Dou:

i know producers of the reality shows are known for spicing things up a bit(like the build off between boyd and the kid woulda never really happened), but you follow me around at work when i'm not on my medicine and there's plenty of drama :blast: .......

I've come to the conclusion that there are FAR to many of these shows on TV these days. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple that I like, but so many knock offs and imitations. Checking out a few channels (Spiketv Speed and Discovery) only taking the "hobby" aspect of cars and motorcycle shows:

    Motorcycle Build off
    American Hot Rod
    American Chopper
    Monster garage
    Two guys garage
    Rides
    Overhaulin
    Car Crazy
    Trucks
    Horsepower TV
    Autorox
    Pimp my ride
    Top Dead Center
    Tough Truckin
    Ride with Funk Master Flex
    Car and Driver Tv
    extreme 4X4
    Fith Gear
    American Muscle car
    Barrett Jackson Car Search
    Dream Car Garage
    My Classic Car
    Nopi Tunervision
    Autorotica
    Chop Cut Rebuild
    Sports car Revolution
    Tuner Transformation
    Victory by Design
    2 Wheel Tuesday
    American Thunder
    Build or Bust
    Corbin's Ride on

That's 30 plus shows dedicated to just the hobby aspect of cars/bikes. Not including racing or news shows. Seams like overkill to me. I for one am looking forward to a crash in the hobby, if for no other reason than cutting down on the crap on TV

    Trevor,
Remember the ride pimping and rice shows don't count as real car programs

actually i think trucks is one of the better auto shows on tv. at least the guy tells you everything thats involved as well as what skill level is required to complete the task. he also builds some killer trucks like the hairy hauler project or the 67 shortbox with the 572 engine. those jokers on horsepower T.V. should just call their show an infomercial.

i was hoping i wasn't the only one who likes "trucks" and the host(bad hair aside :puzzled: ) the show really has more useful stuff on a wide variety of things, and the projects are by far the best....that offroading bronco was awsome last year, and the new one is more of a show/street rod but it's badass :3gears:

    Please don't pimp my ride!!!!

Other than maybe "Trucks" have you noticed the quality of these builds?

Yes the "Overhaulin" cars look great but have you ever seen one driving down the street? It takes alot of time to get sheet-metal massaged for 20" rims and tires. I just don't see how they can possibly fit those rims and tires without rolling the quarters; and they never do. The ultra tall combo on the Chebelle they did would take at least a week without miny tubbs on the car.

My favorite is "Pimp my ride" I swear I was just flipping through channels and I happened on it, but they painted a white car orange and you could see a full 1 and 1/2" of white under the orange paint. Not an affect they were planing on. According to the show they spent something like 30grand on this car, hey lets only put a 36" plasma screen in it and give this gal a nice paint job!

My wife say's she would call one of these shows but, she knows I would hate the fact that I didn't do it myself, and e-bay the car the next day.

She's right, boy I married the right woman! :Brow:

I agree that Trucks is one of the better automotive shows. Casey (I think that's the host's name) knows what he is doing. I also like the fact that he drives the heck out of the project when it is finished!

At least now you can see some car/ bike stuff on T.V. Remember when all you could get was an abbreviated NASCAR race on Wide World of Sports
    once or twice a year?

  17. American Hot Rod would be better if they showed more of what goes into the car rather than everyone crying about how "everyone else on the crew sucks." At least on American Chopper they show more building, but I've lost interest in it lately.

I won't even get started on how much Monster Garage sucks now. It was good when they had a tight budget and had to be real creative in how they got things to work. There was actually a design/construction challenge rather than just a time crunch. When they were trying to locate a special item that fit their budget you actually felt like they were trying.

The other shows (Two Guy's Garage, Trucks, HP TV, etc) are are just good for showcasing new stuff to buy, and that's fine. It keeps the market moving. Then there's everything else that just showcases cars or the hobby, makes me wish it were warm out.

The "pimp" shows are crap. No way do I want my car slapped together in a week.

    69BUICKGS350 Snow Sucks !!!

What I cant deal with on almost all the shows is that they all have unreachable deadlines. They all seem to run along the same theme were they only have 2 days left and there project needs 3 weeks to complete, but by some magic, screeming and wrench throwing, there able to finish the job on time. The other thing I cant stand are some people on these shows that have no idea what the hell there talking about. Example, the 2 idiots on Overhaulin, that broad that way too annoying to watch and the guy who makes the "prank" phone calls is a dope. Sorry, Ive needed to vent this for quite a while, thanks...

Courtney may be a little annoying but shes pretty cute. She actually grew up around cars. Her father owned Brainerd international Raceway.....did I mention that shes cute?

cray1801 Too much is just right.

Nice list crazyjackcsa, here's comments on some of the shows I watch now and then:

    Motorcycle Build off (decent)
American Chopper (still decent, charactors grow on you)
Two guys garage (little slow at times)
Horsepower TV (too much of a commercial)
Car Crazy (good automotive history comes out)
Victory by Design (good show, I'd like to have his job)
    American Muscle car (~good show)
Ride with Funk Master Flex (entertaining)
    Dream Car Garage (decent)
My Classic Car (show o.k but Dennis~<>~)
Pimp my ride (favorite line "dude your ride is un-pimpable")
    Nopi Tunervision (girls and ~cars)
Chop Cut Rebuild (somebody please turn down that music)
    Tuner Transformation (watchable)

Were is Junk Yard Wars, sometimes good.

I really like the quantity of motor shows, the quality is somewhat lacking...

Funny thing that happens when I watch these shows. If the show gets boring I go to the garage and start tweeking :)
