a friend of mine built a 302 motor for his short box f150. Dusring break in the stock distibutor gear rounded off. he switced to a msd billet distributor, put 600? miles or so on it and the msd gear rounded off. the motor is pretty mild, he does run a high volume oil pump. if anyone has ran into this or knows someone that might have that i can talk to it would be most appreciated. thanks Dustin
I would say get rid of that HV pump. They put alot of stain on a stock clearanced 302 since they don't have enough clearance for the addition oil flow. I've seen them twist the rod and break the pump shaft but not clean off the gear. There may be a piece of debris getting up to the pump through the bypass hole in the pickup screen. It doesn't take much of a piece to lock up that pump. I start by going back to a stock pump. A high pressure pump is ok but not a HV.
i have thought about switching pumps too i just thought that maybe there was an oil mod or something that he should have done or something thanks for you help Dustin
