Ouch ouch ouch !:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: Always check your other sources before pushing the "buy it now" button . (Shirley ) :blast: (Me) :gt:
window crank knobs several months ago , i ordered a set of window cranks with clear knobs from gmpartsdirect . they substituted black knobs as the clear knobs had just been discontinued . the black knobs are NOT the same as the original black knobs . they are a new design with no pins . the knob , all one piece , is pushed into the hole on the crank & locks in due to knob's rim .
window cranks Hey Brett, do you know if the clear ones are available? IDOXLR8 ou: I guess I should have read all the posts before I posted. AL
If you guys want to get real nitpicky on these items then realize these "NOS" window cranks you see are not exactly like the originals. I'm not talking about the knob either. Can anyone guess the difference? Patton
Patton, I have noticed that the shape of the chrome portion is also different on the "new" GM handles we have bought for some of our cars. They curve out farther from the door panel than the originals (I guess to prevent your hand from rubbing as you crank the windows up or down?)
Dang it Gary!!---I thought this might go on awhile...that is the difference that I have found. With all the focus on date coded this and that and NOS parts I figured I'd throw that one out there. Good answer. Patton
Patton you forgot 1 more thing too :Smarty: ....the base plate is also curved differently....here's what to compare.....look at the swirled pattern towards the base of the handle...on the 70's style the outer ring is flat (non swirled part I'm talking about), while the 80's the outer ring is actually curved and molded into the base plate with a swooping curve. Just 1 more thing to keep you up at night :gt:    I always grab a few of the clear knobed ones when ever there is a swapmeet...usually grab them for 1 buck a piece...I now have 4 sets as spares just in case they break at the base plate (happed to me plenty of times  )
Excellent info Larry!! I can sleep easier now....after I go home and pull out a couple examples to compare to what you mentioned. First seminar at the BPG Nats---"The Finer Points of Interior Window Cranks". Massive discord caused in the GM Abody community after arguments break out over the detailed differences in original equipment inside window cranks and NOS replacements..... LOL Thnx again. Patton
I have noticed that the '69 Riviera needs that extra curve to clear part of the door trim. I have been hunting for a crank that is more amber than clear to match the rest of those in my Riv. I have found some that are too flat to work in my car. I don't know if the "amber" is correct or if it is just clear knobs gone bad but they all (except diver's door) have gone bad the same way if that's the case.o No: If the driver's door is the odd ball logic tells me it was probably the only one to wear out and get replaced.
Don't they have knobs in the HELP section at the Zone? I bought one for my LeSabre after it came off it my hand one day...nearly perfect match!
I think those "HELP" knobs are pretty close but yeah, then you have to worry about them staying on. Dick---Yes--the amber ones are how the clear knobs look after a few years of fading.... OK---now we just have to find another obscure part to nitpick... maybe we need another section dedicated to describing obscure parts details and differences. Patton
