A few questions regarding this item.

1st: Says "with the ORIGINAL box, but # on box and what he says is on the cover are different.

2nd: Has writing on box that says "68 430 timing cover". Are the covers the same for all 400-430-455's as he claims?

3rd: My 1969 parts book claims the timing cover part # to be 1396916, and that part # covers 1967-1969 400-430 eng.

4th: I'm assuming the timing cover on my 69 400 to be original, based on all other #'s matching so far (eng, trans, intake, carb, etc.). My timing cover has the # 1385201.

Can someone PLEASE enlighten me on the correct part # for my car? I'm trying to restore mine as correct as possible and don't want to buy this and it not be correct for my year and model.

Well I know for sure there's a difference in the 400,430 early 455 covers from the later 455's because the later 455's have larger oil passages. Other than that I can't say.

    Rick,

I'd guess that that number on the box shows up in a pre '70 parts manual. The newer cover and its part number probably superceded the old one. I see the box in the auction says '69 buick (hand written in red ink) also.

    timing cover

What I can tell you about the cover is a friend of mine bought it for his girl friends car to fix it many years ago, but she sold the car and this just sat on the self, it was for a 68 or 69 electra 430 so he marked the box so he knew what it was for, these are all same 400-430-455 if you are looking for no# matching this is not for you unless you have a 430, but try to find NOS timing covers, any questions on the cover Email me at

The cover will fit a 400, 430, or 455. The difference between the pre 70 covers was the graduation of the timing marks. The cover is the same. I am not sure about different size oil passages on later covers as I have no experience with them.

Let me know if you don't bid on it because I will. I have been looking for a replacement and you can't beat NOS even if modify the oil passages.

T/A also offers one that has already been modified.

    Re: timing cover

Thanks for responding. I was wondering if a board member was selling this. Yes, I'm wanting a correct # if at all possible. I'm really wondering whether mine is correct or not, now that I found a discrepancy between the # on mine, and what the part book says the # should be. Good Luck!!:beer

    + more $$$

And more $$$ + Tax and shipping from TA and that is coming from Arizona, you do the math let me know what the total is, If you are going to race a car alot yes that is the way to go, but if its a show car or a cruiser or street and strip why, theres cars out there that have the same original timing covers on them with 150,00 miles on them and still good, this is a chance to get a ORIGINAL not a repop or a redo with the gaskets and the seals.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

    Re: Re: timing cover

Think the discrepancy in #s is that you are looking at the casting number on your cover. That would not be the same as number in your parts book.

    Just my opinion.

    Dan,

You're absolutely right, but, 'ya can't bank on winning that ebay auction. You also can't always bank on a good used one these days. This stuff is old! T/A's parts are pricey, but, all Buick parts have always been lil' mo' money.

Matt, yes you can bank on it.

Dan put a BUY IT NOW price of $325, a bit more than $100 below TA's price. Then again, it is NOT TA's quality. I think that is a fair buy it now.:bglasses:
