Only 1 day left too, with no opening $500 bid yet. However, it has a small dent that's been pounded out. This is a 68 quarter, with the round hole. I wouldn't mind putting this thing away for the future, but the price tag is too high for me.
I hate to think about the scenario where I would need a full quarter... Mine are fine right now, but they both have some bondo in them. I can put that $500+ into my 455 swap fund, if I had it that is.
David, a good friend of mine is doing a 68 GS 350 hardtop. I sold/gave him a NOS 68 passangers side 4Door quarter and it worked out fine. He has been looking for a drives side. About a month a go he went to the Parts Place up in Chicago Il. and picked up one, a repro for $200.00. That way he could look at it and save the shipping. I was very good quality. He is in the process of putting it on and the lines are good and it is even slightly heavier that the NOS, and it is fitting fine. The only problem is it is stamped as a 69, but not cut for the marker light. they were able to dollie the imprint back to stright metal and know comes the work to put weld the 68 marker light in the panal. They do not think they can cut and cunter sink the round marker light. Bill Sangster.
Ya, I haven't seen a repro for a 68, even though some catalogs call theirs a 68/69 piece. Every pic shows a 69 cutout. I hadn't heard anything good about reproduction quarters.
The 'new" repro quarters are ALOT better than the old ones, of say 10 years ago. Look at this pick The rear "hip Line" that goes up , above the skylark script and horizontally across the quarter on the OLD ones does NOT have the proper "Roll" to the stamping. ...its hard to describe, but as the top portion comes down into this line, it almost curls into it - that is the correct way. In to old repro's, it was flat and lacked this curl. If you are getting repro quarters (which my GS now wears - the picture of the Sky are original) don't assume because this is 2003, it will be a new one. I recently spotted one of these older, incorrect wuarters at a swap meet. I didn't press too hard with the seller, just asked him if this was a new or old repro, he said brand new.......which was enough for me to roll my eyes and walk away.....so BEWARE.....or more properly, BE AWARE !!!
Here is a photo of my first '68 GS wearing the repro quarters back in 1990. It is hard to see from this view but as Alan said the "hip line is not perfect. It just did not seem as defined as the original line. I also had to have the square '69 marker light hole filled and cut out a round '68 hole. Other than that they looked and fit fine. I purchased them from Sherman & Associates for $125 each in 1989.
Wow Mike....you can hardly even see the "hip" line in that picture....but its probably just the lighting. When I bought my car back in '93 it had am amature resto done to it and on the left side they hung one of the old, non-correct quarters. I didn't even know about this difference until someone at the '94 Nats Car show (You perhaps ?? o No: ) pointed it out to me When I restored the car in '98/99 I redid both quarters because the amature resto guys put the then new quarters RIGHT OVER the rusty ones leaving them on the car :eek2: I was driving around with 4 quarters on the car....even won a trophy or two with it that way ....and it was to selected to be in the (never printed) GSCA Calendar !!! Here's the picture...the quarter showing (Yes....look PAST the eye candy) is the old incorect type - a few years i later tracked down the photograhper who was kind enough to send me the pictures of my car
Here is a back view that shows the "hip" line a little better.. It still was not as defined as the original, but it looked OK.
Would you believe she had the audacity to STEP ON MY BACK SEAT WITH HERE HIGH HEELS ON !?!?!?!?! .....and then get Pissy with me when I .....um....freaked out
