non-Comfort-Fit 3-Spoke Steering Wheel?

    Hi
I have a 1970 GS 350, converted to a GSX tribute (previous to my ownership).
I have no build paperwork, but others have told me the exterior color (Saturn Yellolw)(obviously), and interior color has been changed (to black).
The dash is painted (there is a run). I think the paint tag indicates the interior was green.
The steering wheel is a 3 spoke with longer slots (correct for a GS, but not a GSX).
The center horn hub seems to be painted gloss black.
The wheel itself is wrapped with a perforated vinyl strip with a vinyl cord (typical of something you'd see in the 70s). Under the covering seems to be a tan (painted black) plastic wheel.
The circular plastic portion of the wheel in general is very hard.
I have a red comfort grip wheel and it is softer (and sticky as they get over time).
My question is, is this a comfort grip wheel or was there ever a GS style 3 spoke long-slot wheel which was not a comfort grip (sport cushion grip), but rather just hard plastic? Maybe this one just hardened over time?
I thinking about buying a new comfort grip if it isn't (since I don't think anyone makes GSX style wheels).
    Thanks,

The GS / optional Comfort Grip Steering Wheel are the same. They did have several colors. The GSX wheel is different. They have a chemical reaction that releases and makes them greasy feeling. You can try to clean them but it just comes back.
Picture of steering wheel I believe you are talking about.

    Thanks! That's the one.
It looks like all repros are black,
==>? Does anyone have any process to paint these sticky/greasy ones?
Maybe an epoxy basecoat or something? I'd love to change the red one I have to saddle for my '72 Skylark Custom Convertible and get rid of the original cracked plastic one on there now.
==>? Also, anyone make the GSX-version ones now?

The original wheels do not take well to dying. Due to the oils leaking out of the original wheels it is almost impossible to make the dye stick for any length of time. The guys that do this often have to “paint” them again from time to time.

Also I reproduced the GSX wheels and have none in stock, with no plans to make more, so I cannot help with that.

    Thanks, everyone.
Ugh. I should have bought the saddle wheel at the 2000 Nats for $45.
Mike: I like your alternative though; sort of middle solution between the comfort grip and a GSX.
I've bookmarked your page for sure.
Curious, do you also do GN wheels?

It is not me that does them, it is Greg. He does a great job. I don’t know if he does GN wheels or not. You would have to ask him.
