Hi, There as i been with other two messages I'm telling people that i very new at this. plus i don't tpye to good. But here go!!! WHAT i'm working on is a 455 1976 block that has stock pistons in it. the only thing that way change was the cam bearing to ta grooved one. Then i put in ta 110 cam with ta 1405 lifters, stock pushrods, edelbrock intake with q-jet 800 that is set up like 71. hei dist, and the heads are 400 that are set up like stage 1. with valves and springs. SO MY problem is that after i got enginetostart and run it is making alot of noise from the valve train on both side. I talk to 'yardley' he beleives that i took out the cam bearing. I don't remember where the holes located.? I'M going to pull it apart again to see what the front cam bearing looks like. well that's where I'm at. any help well help.

What kind of oil pressure is it getting?

Hi Jerry. Please sign your posts, we're all on a friendly first name basis here :beer .

He said he has good pressure both hot and cold. But with his stock valvetrain, TA lifters and EVERY lifter making noise, I can't think of anything other than either the lifter galley plugs behind the cam gear are in too far (espacially the passenger side one) or a cam bearing meltdown.

    Anyone else?

Did he check the lifter preload? The cam base circle maybe different than the previous cam.

    my noisy 455

Hi, guys its jerry here thank for some of the inform. The preload the I GOT WAS .093" and what I read is that it should be around .020"-.060" So I think I'm about .033" to much. As far for the oil pressure it was good. So do I HAVE more problems then I think? OR am I putting thing together wrong?? Also with the 400 heads and using the stage 1 valves with stage 1 valve springs my cousin who did the valve job said I needed shims under the springs, so I put .060" shims under there. I'm not sure about if I have the correct spring hieght or correct coil bind?? Because when I check the hieght it came out to be 1.937" and coil bindwas 1.593" = .344" and what I read that is not right too. So you can see I'M NOT DOING TO GOOD about rebuilding this engnie. AND help would be greatful. thanks jerry allen

Not sure but I think the correct spring height should be 1.880. Coil binded is when the coils "stack-up" solid because of too much cam lift or because of too many shims used to get the correct spring height or seat pressure. At max lift you should be able to get at least a .060 feeler gauge between the coils. You may need to disassemble to check the inner spring by itself.I think these springs usually have more space between them to start with.
    Hope this helps,
    Sincerely,
    Jude Steele

when you say 400 heads what do you mean like 430 heads, If so did you use your 76 valve train or the 400/430 valve train if you used the earlier style valve train 400/430 did you replace your stock pushrods with hybrid ones? The ball ends are different sizes. When I say valve train I mean the rocker arms.

    the noisy 455

HI, THERE I FOUND OUT WHY MY ENGINE WAS SO NOISY. The crank was bad:( And i had to pull it out again and start all over. THE number 7&8 rod bearing were in bad shape too. I guess lucky that i do have another crank to use. So that's where i'm at with this rebuild. Jerry
