Yeah i guess I just assumed there would be at least one open thread about it. First time in this HTOI forum.

It's not the lack of interest, just nothing or no one new lately. I spray 460HP to a stock crank 464, but I only race it 1/8 mi that way. Just do a search under my screen name in the Race section.

I'm going to build a 69 400 block up, mostly stock parts, except pistons, cam, intake, headers, how much do you think, or if any at all nitrous would be safe on it?

If using the stock pistons you want to keep it low start off wit mayb 100 and tune up but becareful becuause the stock pistons wont take much detonation. If you know you want to put nitrous i would suggest you put in a set of forged pistons you could easily spray a 225 wit tha rite tune just got ta make sure its right. There are not a whole lot of people who use nitrous but it can be done safely wit good results.

I just got my assembled shortblock, Now I gotta figure out if my pistons are cast or forged (Seller didn't know). Most likely be uploading some pictures of them soon to see if you guys can tell.

How would cast pistons hold up with some spray?

And its more addictive when you got it right:laugh: As far as cast pistons you have to have that tune dead on start small maybe 100 and make sure you have right plugs and some decent gas. Cast and hyper Pistons will melt and crack easily. if you have the motor not complete i would suggest finding and possibly get forged pistons its worth it in the end

What's a good but inexpensive and safe system that you'd recommend (yup, I want it all :Brow: )?

Heavy car w/ 3.08 gears, Q-jet on a stock intake, wiseco forged pistons, TA212 cam, shorty headers. Not looking for an all-out system, start small and work up to maybe 150 hp? (If I broke something my wife would KILL me...)

prob tha cheapest best bang for your buck would be tha sniper kit by NOS its adjustable up to 150 shot. The powershot is nice due to the fact it is a preset kit at 125hp but theres no adjusting. Just remember that you will need to upgrade you fuel system a lil dont try runnig it off a stock pump.

I've got a Stage 1 mechanical pump, what would be a good fuel pump upgrade? Looking at the NOS website, sounds like any decent electric pump would do...suggestions?

I'm running the holley "blue" elec. fuel pump, works well

Just tap of the line coming off the Stg 1 pump and run a Holley blue setup on a toggle switch so it comes when you arm the nitrous. As long as you have a mild motor buildup, the pump should keep up. I ran 11.47 with a Stg 1 pump but the pressure would drop to 3.5. It kept the bowls full ok. Run a hobbs pressure safety switch on the fuel side just to be safe so the nitrous shuts off if the pressure is too low.

Here is something to scratch your head and think about:kodak: ......since you have a stock intake and carb, you have very limited options. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=120132&page=2

Im not sure what rick meant about tappin in off the line but i have jus ran the pump in line and mounted by the tank so when it is not needed you can turn it off and run the motor off the mechaniclal you will have to use regulator when you have the pump on. A holley blue inline should be enough for a small shot

I saw that thread, good food for thought. (love the bong / nozzle, too!)

Looks like I'm going to have to upgrade from the TH-350 tranny first - got a TH-400 on the way, and plan on installing the Trans-Go kit (and *maybe* converting to a switch-pitch) in the process.

Thanks for all the advice, Lots to think about!
