I pulled the motor and transmission on my GS this past weekend and was inspecting some things and a friend asked me what the heck kind of exhaust system I had in the car?!!! I looked down at the system that my dad had installed in 1977 and thought that the shop that did the work crushed the exhaust pipe on both sides, to get it up and over the transmission crossmember!! It is what I'm guessing is around a 1.75" exhaust system, and the pipes are at least half that size where they go over the crossmember!! The pipes look like they were made that way from the factory, as they are nice and neat "crushes" in the pipe. Now wonder the motor seemed to have a hard time breathing when I ran it!!! I'm sure it will run much better (and cooler, I hope) once I get the new 2.5" system installed. I've got some pictures, I'll try to post them tomorrow. Sheesh, it's amazing how much performance technology has come since the 70's!! :laugh:
