No Temp Reading

    Hello Everyone,

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction regarding a temp sending unit issue in my 72 350.

Im not getting any engine temp reading after unwrapping the wiring harness to bypass the resistance wire for an HEI distributor swap. I have tested that the single wire to ground makes my guage spike to hot, and the connector seems to be in good shape. I also replaced the water temp sensor itself but had no luck resolving the issue (and with the timing of the issue it seems to be unlikely to be a faulty sensor as it all worked before).

Does anyone have any idea where i could start from here? I am willing to try almost anything at this point. Thanls for your time.

    alec296 i need another buick

You could check the resistance at the sender to ground then check it after engine warms up. Sounds like you got a sensor for a warning light vs a gauge .

Fiddled with it some more and it turned out to be a combination faulty/incorrect new temp sensor and a loose connector. Used a dental pick to bend the connector contact to fit more snug, no reading. Put the original sensor back in and it worked.
