Did you gap the plugs if so what gap?
When you changed the wires you may have put them back crossed. Check to make sure the wires are in the correct placement.
Let us know what you find.

64-66 400-401-425 firing order is 1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3. Cylinders on passenger side from front to back are 1,3,5,7, on drivers side are 2,4,6,8 Find the #1 plug wire on the distributor, then follow around clockwise(? for nailhead) around the above firing order.

Ok thanx here is the update.

There was a slight miswiring of the sparkplug wires.
    I changed that.

    I charged my battery

I went out and got some starting fluid.

    no luck yet.

could I be out of gas??

    any other ideas??

By this time you might have fuel glazed the plugs. Take 'em out. Use a spark plug file to clean 'em. Re gap 'em. And try again. If you are using starting fluid out of gas is not a problem.

By fuel glazing I mean the raw fuel is coated on the plugs and compressed on and forms a barrier to the spark attempting to jump across. Might not be it, but it's happened to me.

Just a suggestion here.... if the car has been sitting for a while.....maybe you have stale gas. It will screw up spark plugs on contact. You may also have a carbon track on your coil tower.:Smarty:

All the suggestions are correct, it is though possible that the timing gear has taken a dump, and that's hard to tell without it running. I think you are overly ambitious to change the engine, unless you have the time to do it, without figuring out what is wrong with the existing engine. Just some thoughts.
