I got my car out of the body shop the other day after 3 weeks ,and had it towed home. After it came off the flatbed I started it and was backing in to the garage when all of the sudden my foot went right to the floor when stepping on the brakes,I pumped them real quick and fortunatly stopped before hitting the wall.Close one, real close. What gives? No leaks, the master is full, the brake pedal comes up when pumping them ,but then slowly goes down to the floor.Never had a problem before, brakes are relativley new as are the brake lines. Is it possible the master went bad? Thanks in advance for any help.Tom.

One of these things will be it:

1 Check the brake fluid. Maybe you will get lucky and it's low.

2 Bleed the brakes... maybe you will get a little lucky and that's all it is.

3 Pull the wheels and check for leaks at calipers and wheel cylinders; if that's it, it's a fairly easy repair and it wasn't your lucky day.

4 It's the master cylinder. Damn the bad luck!

    Keep us posted!

Sound like an internal leak in the master from what your describing. Pretty inexpensive master cylinder on the 71s. The local Poop Boys ought to have it in stock. Be sure to bench bleed the new one first. Congrats Tom on getting your car home. Im sure youve been out to the garage several times to admire it!

Thanks Frank and Jason. It seems that it's probably the master.Jason your right pep boys has it for like $17.00 and a $15.00 core charge. They did ask me which one I have though. They stock the morine, but have to order the bendix.I have to check which one I have.
