    :ball:

Tonight I was adjusting the kickdown switch again by the gas pedal and noticed a 34 year old flasher hanging down from the bundle of wires it had been hiding in.. *snicker*

Now I understand why the flashers worked so well and the turn signals were bearly able to flash even though Id changed the flasher twice... LOL

Anyway... Went down and bought a new flasher before I pulled out of the parking lot at OReillys I did the light check in the reflection from the store front like allways and got through 99% of passed when I noticed a very wierd problem...

Ihad the guys there look at it and of course they each had 3 different guesses each... LOL

Here it is guys... Thank You for any advice you might have...

    I have a 68 Buick LeSabre 4dr h/t 350/4 2sp trans...

All bulbs burn correctly for the running lights...
All burn correctly for Emergency Flashers...
Brake lights all burn correctly and all turn signals light up as they should also all marker lights come on with the running lights.

The problem is that when the right turn signal is on I get no brake lights.

So... I tried holding down the brake and by itself looks normal...
4 bulbs all the same brightness...

Still holding the brakes during signaling left and then right...

When I signal left turn... the right brake lights are on but when I signal right turn the left side won't light up...

This happens the same if the running lights are on...

If I signal right... then press the brakes the ledt light do not change.

If I signal left and then press the brakes I get both right bulbs as I should...

    Very strage HUhh?

Also what does it mean on the flasher when it says 3 lamp?

Can that be the problem? I did replace the 3 lamp flasher with one rated for 2-6 lamps....

No visable damage to wiring or bulbs and the bulbs are new and there is no mud or dirt or corrosion around the bulbs,,,

Thank you for reading my super long post... Thanks for any advice...

usually if you have a 3 lamp flasher (for one bulb up front and 2 in the back) and a bulb burns out somewhere .... it will not let any turn signals flash, telling you (by way of the dash blinker indicators) that you need to replace a bulb .... replacing the 3 bulb flasher with a 2-6 bulb flasher is a good idea since it lets the system continue to work correctly (as safe as possible) even though a bulb may be out.

as for your problem, that is gonna take a good nights sleep and some meditation to arrive to a logical conclusion ... maybe i will post again tomorrow if i get an idea on your problem.

Try wiggling your turn signal lever and see if the brake lights flash. It sounds like the turn signal switch is going bad.

Thank you both very much for the information consideration and advice! I am impressed with this board allready and think I am really going to like it here.

WOW... I posted this question at 1:30 AM and by 7AM allready have 2 replies...!

Very impressive! Thanks for posting replies so quickly!

While I was holding the brakes during signaling left and then right, I did wiggle the turn signal lever also and no brake lights ever came on throughout th whole process until the lever was in the position to close the part of the switch controling current flow to the left turn indicator lamps: At which time the right stop indicator lamps did glow as normal.

Does anyone else have any idea what could cause this?:Do No:

well, its not gonna fix itself .... it is probably a good idea to look into the turn signal switch. either some debris is in it and makin problems or it is in need of replacement from time and usage.

    bulbs

I'd still check the bulbs. pull them out one at a time and check filaments better yet if you found a way to test each bulb. I've had goofy turn signal problems like this. (i'd hit the brakes and the front parking lights would turn on only when signaling) turned out to be a bad bulb and thats it. if i rember correctly when the bulb went out the filament arced to the other filament and found its ground that way.

also check inside of the socket for corosion.

    also start with the rear.

stupid 30 yr old electrical design.

Thank you for the reply but as I said in my post...

No visable damage to wiring or bulbs and the bulbs are new and there is no mud or dirt or corrosion around the bulbs,,,

    And...

All bulbs burn correctly for the running lights...
All burn correctly for Emergency Flashers...
Brake lights all burn correctly and all turn signals light up as they should also all marker lights come on with the running lights.

The problem is that when the right turn signal is on I get no brake lights.

    Turn signal switch!!!

Remove the steering wheel and also remove the turnsignal switch, then take a look at the small plastic cams inside it...
I think that its broken, i had exactly the same problem as you on my 67 Electra...
It was a small plastic piece that was loose and i just glued it back in place with superglue and did not have any problems after that...
    Good luck

Thank you very much for clearly stating what the problem was and how to fix it. I was getting frustrated at the vauge replies.

Dad allways told me anything worth doing is worth doing right!

And I am not refering to you YUK!!!

Thank you also for the detailed info you gave me... It was much appreciated especialy how you gave it some thought!

Let me just clarify one thing before I leave the impression that I am an ass...LOL

(allthough that may very well be so...)

I take the time when I make a post to include all the details and I like the same coutesy back.:spank

I said that all the bulbs were new and that there was no dirt or corrosion and then I get told to "check the bulbs and check the collars for corrosion)..... then wiggel the lever! when I said I had checked that by moving it left then right while holding brake down...

You see... even if your right about the the problem youd didn't make it clear how to trouble shoot it or fix it and no example of a simular problem you had...:Do No:

PS... I am going through a bankruptcy right now and my judgement may be a bit off as to what is irritating and ....what ever... Thanks again for the posts that clear and helpfull YUK and jannelu!:TU: :beer :

when i wrote "its not gonna fix itself", it was meant like, "ok now, its time to roll up your sleeves and dig in somewhere. and the best somewhere is gonna probably be the turn signal switch."

my vert is coming slow. i am still running wiring and working on replacing the fuel lines and converting to an "in tank" fuel pump.... a year ago i had some health problems and th docs figured out that my heart is only pumping out 25 percent of the blood that is goin in. a normal heart pumps out 40-50 percent. it is a permanent condition called cardiomyopathy.. the medicines were constantly being adjusted for the past year and cause dizziness and fatigue and fatigue and fatigue. its only been th past 2 months that they have left it alone.
i work on th car every minute that i feel like it regardless of time of day. i want to get it together and drive to tenn. to see friends in the fall.

i won this auction on ebay. did you see this ad last week? i have never seen such a thing on an old buick ... im gonna convert mine to use this.
