My friend has a Nitrous kit lying around and I was thinking about running it. I was wondering if anyone has sprayed these motors and how they handle a 75-100 shot of Nitrous. I have a 455 with 2-3 thousand miles on the rebuild. Let me know if its a bad idea to spray at the strip. Thanks
I sprayed my 73' 455. It has lower compression than your 70', but we're only talking a 100 shot. It'll handle it. My motor was running stock everything except a Performer manifold and the RV cam TA Performance sells. My Nitrous kit was the Edelbrock Performer Nitrous System. My 455 is in my Off Road Buggy. (It used to be a Jeep a long time ago..) Find out if your friend has the instructions that came with the kit and follow the timing recommendations, etc. Whatever you do, just don't let it go lean and everything will work out fine. The only warning I'd have is it's extremely addicting. Good Luck!
Just the way that you ask the question makes me nervous. In my opinion, nitrous is great to use AS LONG AS YOU UNDERSTAND IT. It has gotten a bad reputation because people use it incorrectly and cause damage. As long as nothing dumb was done during the rebuild, you should be fine. Make sure that your ignition is top-notch (strong coil, NO platinum plugs, etc.). Just my $0.02. -Bob Cunningham
No problem. Just ensure adequate fuel supply (very very important), set timing and fuel pressure as recommended. It'll make you smile for the rest of the day.
I'm definately not going to get crazy with Nitrous, it actually scares me. The car runs perfect with the rebuild, and I have 2 fuel pumps so i dont think that would be a problem.
