Ever been to nite under fire for the 4th at Norwalk? It' has some short-comings but all in all it's a fun event. You have to plan on racing all night. The downside is you need a day of vacation to get into the pit side of the track and it's nearly impossible for anyone to save a pit space. They stage cars into the track starting in a big field called Linders Lot across the street from the track. They pull trucks/trailers in big lines and call people up to a trailer in order to register. We got there at 9:30 Friday morning and I was number 180. Our number was called for registration at about 12:30. I can understand their reasoning for this but the bad thing is they don't run time trials on Friday. It was a quiet race track to have so many people there. I will say we all got two time trials on Saturday though. That's not bad for 700 race cars in attendance. Their 4th show is great. It's always fun to see John Force (for me anyway.) They have a spectacular fireworks show too. There were people there from all over. I heard someone's name announced from Florida. We went with Pat & Jan duMaire. He played with his 62 all week-end. I can't begin to tell you how many people stopped to look at his car. He spent all week-end talking to people about it. It was even the talk in the staging lanes. It's always exciting to see a Buick draw so much attention. His "baby GN" as his license plate says is pretty unique. Even though we slept very little for a couple days it was worth it. I thing the trick is being sure to go with people you know and pitting together.

You know it's sad that I live 1100 miles away in S. Louisiana, and I know where Linders Lot is!! Last year, we didn't read the fine print where it said "Gates open at 4:00". We got there at 1:00......A.M. With nowhere to go we camped out in Kmart pkg lot for awhile then came back to Linders Lot.

Did you enjoy the event? Maybe you can race it in the future and all the Buick people can pit together. So much more fun when you race together.

No, I was there for the Olds event with a bunch of local friends. They are planning on going again Aug 1, but I don't think he's bringing the motor home this time so I think he wants me to pull him with my truck. Not a big fan of sitting in a truck that long. But, we might be able to get there a little quicker since it's easier to handle. I wasn't thrilled about going last year, but I got to meet Gary Kubisch, Keith Sinley and jimsbuick. Also got to see John Zerucha run Gary. Oh yeah, there was some Olds there too!

Can't say I blame you for not wanting to tow that far. It's worth it when the event lasts 4-5 days. You did meet some great local racers last time you were here. Hopefully you will meet everyone else at the nat's....you are coming right?
