NHRA has announced that they are making some changes to ET racing classes on their web site about roll bars and and other equipment.
I wasnt going to post them all on the page, so if you go to nhra.com, they have them on the front page.

That's still better for you than the old rule of 13.99!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I don't need to put a roll bar in after all :) Probably should just for safety reasons, but I just hate the thought of having to drill, cut or do whatever it is they do, to my GS. Of course I'm only 3 tenths off having to have one so I probably should just grin and bear it and have one installed knowing that 11.7's are gonna get boring after a while :Brow:

Ummmm, Sweetie? I believe the exception that allows you to run as quick as 11.49 without a rollbar, only applies to "stock appearing" vehicles. I don't believe your car fits that criteria. :Smarty: Of course, that was the rule they put in place this year. Maybe for next year they're easing the rule for all cars running that quick. :Do No:

Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

Umm....Doug my love...I believe that the new rule will apply to me :) I knew that the stock appearing rule went into effect mid summer...this looks to be like a newer rule beginning in Jan. as the NHRA attempts to get more street cars involved :)

:Dou: Geez come on get over it and weld the darn roll bar/cage in. With the magic body guys do today they can easily remove the bar and weld in new plates to cover the holes and eastwood paint it and with factory carpet and undercoating no one will see anything. :Smarty:

Safety first my dear Renee, and Denny, not to mention Doug will be heart broken if anything should happen to ya, and this goes to anyone else out there, please lets not have what happen to Bobb be forgotten, we have to learn from it.

I think some of the smartest rules were the truck crank shaft height rules.
6ft lift truck, don't need to be doing 9s.

Rick Thank you for you saying it I was about too. I think we all need to remeber that I was only going 100 threw the traps. If we going to race lets try and make them as save as we can. If you go to a chassis shop and have them custom bend a bar it is not real noticeable anyway. The kits that are out there don't fit tight because they need to give you extra fit room were if they make it to the car they build to suit.

Time for a group purchase of rollbar kits? I know the requirements have been eased but after Bob's experience why not do it anyway. I know Renee, I ain't even close to 11.50 yet.

Where are the good kits for '70-'72 cars?

    Gary,

I wouldn't even mess with putting a kit in your car. Best thing to do is go to a chassie shop and have them bend one up custom. They can do so much better when they have your car there to work with. Most places around here charge around $100 per point. So a good, custom, tight fitting 6 point would be around $600.

Hey Bobb, it's great to see you writing up here! I'm sure you've been asked 1,000 times how things are, and I continue to wish you and yours the best, and I hope to see you all soon, Shane
