Newbie to this forum.....not to cars. Had many in the last 18 years. Lots of GM "A" bodies.

    But never a Buick 455.

Is there a publication that explains what years of 455's are better than others and why?

Looking to get some good info so I can make an educated decision.

Tired of working on the small blocks and want some "good old American Big Block Torque".

Use the search and type in 455 which years are the best. The best is a good question. 70 's have better compression, 71 and up have better oiling, and 75-76 are have stronger blocks, but the less compression.

    Thanks. Anyone else?

I plan on rebuilding it if I get one. Is it mainly larger chamber heads on the low compression engines?

I am looking to get 400 hp and 400 tq. Is that fairly easy to do with the 455?

Any years to avoid? It will most likely come out of a donor car that I will scrap. All I will want is the motor and tranny.

Stock from the factory the torque is 510 and say 376 hp on a 70 big valve engine.

You might want to take a look at the dyno tapes for some pump gas street engines at www.trishieldperf.com.
