What's up? Just purchased 72 Skylark with a 350-2. Hope to make the car into a respectable custom. Car is very solid. I plan on converting the front drums to disc and then beginning on the body work. Dreaming of a big block with 500+ hp. First things first though and plan on taking baby steps. I'm a newbie to all this. I have a little mechanic and body work experience but have good friends with respectable knowledge of mechanics. I will post pics Monday when I take delivery of the car (maybe sooner depending on owner). I am open to suggestions from anyone and everyone and will probably need lots of parts to start and ultimately complete (probably never really complete) my build. I'll be asking lots of questions. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. Thanks

Welcome Pat! That sounds a lot like my 72 GSX clone! Started as a 350-2 and now has a 500+hp big block in it.

Feel free to ask questions, somebody here will definatly have your answer!

Also if you need any parts, we have plenty, just let me know. :TU:

    Welcome.

Sounds like you are going to be starting with a good car, and doing the right stuff. I always like to hear people talk about brake upgrades when they do big engine upgrades.
There are companies that make conversion kits for the brakes. Lots of guys use donor cars when doing a conversion, but by the time you buy the donor car, find out that some of the parts are worn and need replaced, I would rather buy a kit and have new, good parts.

IMO disc brakes is the right way to go.

Sorry it took so long for me to post but the process of getting the car was more than I had expected. The car owner commited suicide at the end of last year and I was purchasing the car from his mother. Long story short the process of getting the car registered in my name was an undertaking. However everything is well and I'm about to begin dismantling my BUICK. I'm planning on the BUICK becoming a customized street machine that will hold it's own at the track (bet noone's heard that before). I've always been a performance animal but this is my first go around with building one from the ground up. From mustang 5.0's to Cobras, to 300 ZX's to Acura's and even my F-250 has seen it's share of performance upgrades. Now it's time to embark on a new frontier. Anway, I'm going to post pics so there may be a few strange posts after this in order for me to get my 10 posts in. Thanks and any suggestions or tips are always greatly appreciated.

Here it is. Washed it - didn't do much good but nothing looks better than a wet black car.

    Justa350 I'm BACK!

I think if the car sat a tad lower, especially in the front, it could look hot with those big rims. Looks like a fantastic starting point! You mentioned needing a bunch of parts, but the car looks great. Is there stuff missing, or do you just mean parts to build it up are needed?

Welcome! I agree with putting some rims with some class on there... and as far as tips go, keep your Buick all Buick!
