I recently bought a 56 Buick and the numbers on the registration and on the door piller don't match, but the vehicle was registered.

About 1/3 of the way from the top of the window sticker just above the Vin it says (this is exact) -

    *NYMA*

Could this mean it was given a different number?

    Thanks,

I have personally seen two "newer" cars that have had NYS DMV mistakes on the titles (post 73 cars)

VIN's did not match- one of them had been like that since day one.

early monday morning or late on friday in Albany!!!

I brought a '68 GS350 from NY in 1981, and the VIN was wrong on the NY registration, or the Secretary of State in MI typed it wrong, had to take it in to get it inspected to get changed on the Michigan Title, since there are no titles for NY cars before 1973! Was loads of fun, plus it was in my Mom's name, so I had to fake her signature, which I also had to do in NY when she bought me the car for $500 in NY in '79!! My first GS, still have it! RV

Ive had this problem several times on cars i`ve bought, the VIN #`s was of either the B was an 8 or 1 # was missing, this is what they tell you to do,you have to trace over the VIN # with paper and either a crayon or pencil so the # comes up on the paper and take a pic of the VIN# and when u go to register it you will give them the paper u traced along with the pic and make sure you tell them the #`s are off so they see it at the DMV.

    Thanks
