Hi, Bruce here....I recently purchased a 70 Skylark custom with a 350/350....I have found a 455 with all the brackets and accessories for a steal at $250....It's out of a 76 Buick ????.....I've been told the later model blocks are thicker/heavier and better suited for building a higher horsepower engine...Is that true??....I have also been told that I need to be sure to do some oiling system upgrades to these engines or I will have some problems.....Any true Buick guys who would like to share some of their expert opinions with me on the best way to go about building this monster 455 I have planned....I would greatly appreciate your help.....email me directly with any articles or tips you may have.....my email is bglanville8@aol.com ....thanks again....Bruce.....oh yeah I also own a 1962 Buick Special with the little V-6 engine and 2-speed Dynaflow transmission.....I may take the 350 from the 70 and stuff it into the 62.....should be a great motor in the smaller car...o No:
Hey, welcome to the site! I have read the 76' block is better, and the 76' heads are not the most desirable year-you want 73' and older and open them up with the stage one valves. Just a couple ideas: You can run about 10-1 (stock 70) pistons on good pump gas. Get a good cam from TA (in the range you plan to run). Also just read on the site there is a TON of good info on here. Good luck
