I everyone! I am new the board, hoping to get some future info on my newly aquired project, although the car is not really that new to me.......

I bought the car from my best friend since high school. We put A LOT of miles on this car cruzing in Northern Colorado, and met quite a few women too :bglasses:

We graduated in 88, and I left for college for 2 years. When I returned home, he, his Dad, and a poor performance mechanic pulled the factory drive train out (322, 3-speed on the column, and the rear end) and installed a 454, TH400, and a 12 bolt Chevelle rear end w/suspension. They did a very nice job on the engine and tranny install, but forgot how to weld on the rear end. Project #1.

They had the interior redone. Nice job, done by someone else.

They had the car repainted. Don't know what happened, but the clear is coming off in HUGE flakes. And some Bondo has popped where a few dents were filled, without pulling them first. Broke the left side "Special" script too. I am going to shave the letters from the hood, the Special emblems, and the rear trunk emblem. Project #2.

They rebuilt the 454, and put about 200 miles on the car. Then, the carb on their old 81 GMC dually started acting up, so they pulled the carb off of the Buick on put it on the truck. And...they didn't cover the intake on the Buick with a rag, tape, nothing. Just left it open to the elements and the mice. Project #3.

Oh, and project #4....I bought the 81 GMC crew-cab dually from them for $300. They blew that motor up a few months later! I parted out the trashed overhead camper that came with it for $500. Kewl, $200 profit!!!

I have about $900 into a new engine for it (the dually), and will have a couple hundred in a new paint job (it sat for years also after they k-boomed it too!). Then I plan on selling it and putting the $$$ into the Buick!!

    Good plan, eh?

I'll attach a photo of the 56 Special.

For once....maybe it's a good thing that the Tri-Five Chevies get all the attention! Hopefully, that will leave Buicks (like above) to be found by the rest of us for a decent price!!:Brow:

    Nice Project!!:TU:

    I agree

I agree with the other comments, that is one sweet ride. There is a ton of potential in that car, and the best part is it isn't being crushed, it's a BUICK. Best of luck. Later .......:beer :TU:

Nice car dude. While your shaving the hood letters, why not take off the ornement at the same time. It really cleans up the front end. Here's mine.....

DROOOL, DROOOL, DROOOOL Very Nice Project! All you need is a Buick Heart (motor) for it and it would be a dream.

That is way cool. I love the 56' Special. My Dad had 13 of them when I was a kid. I would like to find a solid 2 door to restore myself in his memory. Great ride guy!

You are one lucky dude. That is such a hot ride. If you ever, I mean EVER, think of parting with it, give me a call FIRST.

One of my favorite cars too. Way more stylin than the same vintage chevy. I really dig the old speedy woodpecker sticker in the window. I've been trying to find some of those.
