Not a problem guys, I just sent my check and awaiting the parts. I'll keep you informed. Thanks, Mike
Duane - I heard that you're in between runs on the '71 scoop grills. Any info on when you'll have a set ready for sale? Donny
I'd just like to say THANKS to all that are offering their boots for Duane to use - IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.... .....THIS is what being BUICK is all about :beer :TU: :beer
If I make them with a round hole they won't be 68-72 boots. Is anyone making the earlier boots? Duane
Stageone do you have a number and or a picture of the 73 4 speed boot? I have a NOS one and it is slightly larger and the lip is larger and fits over the ring farther, than the other one I have that I think is for a 68/72. I will find the number on my NOS and post. Thanks Bill.
I have seen NOS ones that look similar to the 68-72 boots but are larger. I think that's what was used to model the earlier reproductions. Duane
I know Duane, just dreaming.... :ball: The price has gotten out of control on this stuff. Pretty soon it's going to be 2 expensive to hang on to complete cars. They will all be getting parted out. I've looked for a boot for years now, and always said I would pay 100 bucks. I thought that was a rediculous price for a piece of rubber, but obviously that's not even going to do an opening bid anymore. done now. rant off..:Smarty: :beer
I thought one of the early ones came up for sale recently on this board, or was it e-bay. The problem is I could probably do the boots, but cannot get the price per piece below $99 or so. This is because of the type of molds I use, and the cost of the material I need to use to make the parts. For manufacturers it's a catch 22 you either, (1.) pay a large amount for the mold and then pennys for the part or (2.) pay less for the mold and quite a bit for each part. With (1.) you have a large $ investment, but end up with lots of parts and no supply problems, with (2.) you have a smaller $ investment, but continually have supply problems. The only blessing is, with a cheaper $ mold you can afford to get low volume parts made that may never get done otherwise. However, if/when another vender makes a high volume mold, and can average the cost of the part/mold out over time, their parts generally end up being cheaper in price, and the little guy ends up not selling any parts. The only saving grace is some of the high volume parts are not as exact as the low volume pieces that I make, so the people that care, and are willing to wait, often opt to spend a little more money to buy the correct pieces from me. So with all that being said, what do you do? Duane
IS lower consolette boot is the same as a non-console boot? I need the non-console boot and ring. 460 is more than I paid for my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, by alomst 220 bucks, New! I need to find a nice boot for nice price. thanks Joe
Guys, The Parts Place just posted they were going to reproduce some shifter boots. Maybe someone should ask them which ones they plan on doing so 2 different manufacturers do not duplicate their efforts on such small volume parts. It would be refreshing to have the different venders working together for a change, don't you think. That's how we used to do it. Duane
Well it's HERE!! My wife called me at work this afternoon and told me she opened the box to see the piece of rubber I paid so much money for.. (she wasn't impressed) Not a bad original example, it came with the metal ring ready for installation. Duane, I'll send you a PM about duplicating this thing. Mike New Jersey
There ya go Mike. Send this one to Duane, have him reproduce it and then buy one and put this one back on Ebay and recoup your money.
Duane, I'll purchase one also. I bought three of the Metro boots a few years back from Legendary and kept sending them back due to inferior quality. Each one had a thin spot and hole in one of the fan folds (Nice Quality Control!!!). They also looked as if a child had cut the excess material at the edge with a dull kitchen knife. I finally gave up. Despite 35+ years I decided to live with ol' originale even if she looks a bit torn at the top (most of us look like that anyway).
