okay i am looking to put a new compleate rear in my car i just dont know what to go with an 8.5 or 12 bolt. and i know i want around 3.23- 3.50s just so i can get on the highway to the track. so help with what car to pull it out of and 8.5 or 12 thanks in advance chris
Go with the 3.08-3.23 and use the 8.5" rears. Remove the 8.5 from any 71-2 Skylark and Cutlass. You can get the 3.08-3.42 gears from some full size wagons. All GM Suburbans and full size Blazers with the 8.5" rear had 3.42 gears. You will definitely need a posi unit.
took a peek today under my car and relized that the diff that i have already is a 8.5 corp i think only compared to pic a saw on buick performance.com so i guess what i need now is a new carrier and gears and posi right
okay something just brought to my attention how storng is the 8.5 overall. i have near stock hp but i dont have the lightist foot around. :3gears:
8.5 rear You'll be fine with it. Installed correctly they will take alot of punishment. tAKE CARE AND IF YOU NEED SOME PARTS GIVE A CALL ...oops caps. Take care, Jim
