hey guys..got my car back today from the body shop and it looks good...it was wet sanded and polished a lil bit..it was sitting for a month before i got it and im noticing now im seeing lil pin holes in the paint.....am i able to buff and wax it now to protect it since its being stored outside with a cover? kyle
Need to know what it was painted with - what kind of paint/system. Paint cures over time so you may be seeing the beginnings of a problem.... - Bill
If you go a step further and come to the conclusion that those pinholes will not get smaller as time goes on, you'd say you have a problem right now Have you talked to the shop yet??
Kyle, How many areas can you find the holes? Can you get a good close up picture? This could be a serious problem if left unchecked. Sounds like a redo may be in order if it was done incorrectly. Fill us in on details.
ok :ball:will get pics later on when i find a digi camera....it was a basecoat clear coat,..torch red...and i will be gong back to the shop monday..man this sucks...was hoping to keep my new car..still how long do i let it cure...i really want to keep as good as new forever and unwaxed the nature will kill it kyle 71gs 350
if you have pin holes they would be in the body work ,and the only way to fix that is to fill them and re-paint the panel..If you have fish-eyes they can be sanded out of thr clear coat to a certain degree , if they are really bad its easier to just re- paint the panel ..i would need to see a pic to tell you what you have there .mike..
As far as waxing it goes, it depends on if the paint was baked or not ,if it was baked you could wax it within a couple days , if it wasnt i would let it sit for a couple weeks ..mike
Mike...do you work in a bodyshop? Ive got this 68 Riviera thats screaming for a re-paint. BTW...I cant believe I havent run into you before. Whereabouts are you on LI?
jason i do work in a body shop ,i have for 15 years , and i would be happy to look at your car if you would like . i live in WESTBURY but i work in ST JAMES . if you would like to meet up one day, and talk about your car and your goals as far as a paint job PM me and we'll get together .. mike :TU:
so i can wax my car now..it has been about a month and hlaf...hood has been about a month...trunk also(done seperatly)..u see i was told to wait for 3 months, and my buddy said even 6 months...and yes it was baked on...was in the hot a$$ room when i was takin pics :bglasses: kyle
Mike...Westbury huh? Interesting. I remember years and years ago I met a guy who worked in a gas station on Jericho Tpke in Westbury(?). Spoke with him for a few minutes. He had his GS in the bay of the shop. Said at the time he just had an engine built at Pee Gee. Was that you?? Mind you this is probably going back 18-20 years ago. Kyle...Be careful what material the towel is made from. Gliptone sells a super soft blue "microfiber" towel that works exceptionally well for removing wax. I hate those fine scratches you get from the wax rag.
